Description
Lipoma is a lump of fatty tissue that forms beneath the skin. When handled, it is not rigid and feels rubbery, and it tends to move with light finger pressure. It is normally painless and can arise anywhere on the body, although the trunk, back, shoulders, neck and arms are the most often affected. They develop slowly and are not malignant. The exact etiology of lipomas is unknown. Because they tend to run in families, genetic factors are most likely involved in their development.
