Description
Angioedema is the rapid swelling of the area beneath the skin or mucosa. The swelling occurs because of the accumulation of fluid. It is very much similar to urticaria or hives. It is an allergic reaction of the body which occurs in the deeper layers of the skin such as dermis, subcutaneous tissue, mucosa and submucosa. It happens in those areas which have loose areas of tissue like face, throat, arms, hands and feet. It can also affect genitals and intestine. However, it is dangerous when the swelling occurs in throat or tongue. A person has difficulty in breathing. Insect bites, genetic predisposition, contact with latex and certain medications like ACE inhibitors, etc are the common causes of angioedema.
The signs and symptoms of angioedema include:
- Sudden swelling below the surface of skin
- Swelling around eyes and lips
- Itchiness
- Painful welts
- Abdominal cramps
- Difficulty in breathing
HOW AYURVEDA HELPS?
In Ayurveda, angioedema is known as Shitapitha. It occurs because of the aggravation of kapha and vata doshas. This further aggravates pitta dosha. It occurs when a person comes in direct contact with the cold air or due to genetic predisposition. There are some external and internal medications which are prescribed in Ayurveda for its management. They help in balancing the doshas and thus cures the disease.
1. Curcumin Capsule:
