OVERVIEW
Viral gastroenteritis is a medical condition in which there occurs inflammation of the intestine. It is commonly known as stomach flu. It occurs because of the intake of contaminated food or water and through contact with the infected person. The germs cause infection of the intestine and thus lead to manifestation of several symptoms. Nausea, vomiting, watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps are some of the common symptoms of viral gastroenteritis.
There has been no particular treatment for it, so prevention is better. However, those who have strong immune system get cured by themselves in a few days.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF VIRAL GASTROENTERITIS?
A person develops gastroenteritis from several types of micro-organsims but viral gastroenteritis occurs because of the two viruses:
- Norovirus
- Rotavirus
WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS OF VIRAL GASTROENTERITIS?
Here are some of the factors which make a person more prone to viral gastroenteritis:
- Students living in dormitories
- Military personnel
- Children in day care or camps
- People with weak immune system
- Prisoners
- Cruise passengers
- Travelers
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF VIRAL GASTROENTERITIS?
The common signs and symptoms of gastroenteritis are:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Watery stools usually no blood is present
- Abdominal cramps
- Fever
- Feeling tired
- Headache
- Lot of discomfort
- Dehydration
- Drowsiness
- Dryness in mouth
HOW VIRAL GASTROENTERITIS CAN BE PREVENTED?
By taking some of the precautionary measures, viral gastroenteritis can be prevented. Following are some of preventive measures:
- Washing hands regularly
- Getting vaccination of rotavirus
- Not sharing personal items like towels, utensils, plates, etc
- Washing fruits and vegetables properly
- Avoiding close contact with the infected person
- Doing proper disinfection
WHAT ARE THE COMPLICATIONS RELATED TO VIRAL GASTROENTERITIS?
If gastroenteritis is not dealt timely, then it can lead to serious health implications. Following are the complications of viral gastroenteritis:

- Coma

- Seizures

MANAGEMENT OF VIRAL GASTROENTERITIS WITH THE MEDICINES OF CHANDIGARH AYURVED CENTRE

1. Agnimukha Churna
This herbal churna is prepared from ingredients like Vacha (Acorus calamus), Pippali (Piper longum), Sonth (Zingiber officinale), Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), etc that balances vata & kapha doshas in the body. Pitta doshas is composed of a fire element that digests almost everything that a person eats or drink. The eaten food is transformed into energy for the body to use in various functions of the body.
Recommended Dosage: Take 1 tablet twice daily with normal water.
5. Trikatu Syrup
Trikatu combines the goodness of Black pepper, Ginger and, Long pepper to create an herbal remedy for digestive ailments, sluggish metabolism, obesity, and high cholesterol. This syrup has best results in anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and expectorant. It also help to tackle the weight problems or obesity. It can modulate your body’s immune response while cutting the characteristic inflammation associated with the back pain.
Recommended Dosage–Take 2 teaspoonful twice a day before meal with normal water.
