A urinary tract infection is a medical condition in which there is an infection of the urinary system. The urinary system consists of a pair of kidneys, a pair of ureters, urinary bladder and urethra. When any of the above part is infected, it leads to UTI. Urinary tract infection is of different types depending on which part is infected such as- cystitis (inflammation of bladder), pyelonephritis (infection in kidneys), urethritis (inflammation of urethra).
Females are more prone to urinary tract infection than males as the length of their urethra is smaller. It can make the entry of micro-organisms from the outside much easier.
