Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of your urinary system-such as kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Most infections involve the lower urinary tract-the bladder and the urethra.
Comparing to sex women is at greater risk of developing a UTI than men. Infection of bladder can be painful and annoying. However, serious consequences can occur if a UTI spreads to your urinary system.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of UTI?
Urinary tract infection has following signs and symptoms as described:
- A burning sensation when urinating
- Frequency of the urine may decrease
- Urine that appears cloudy
- Strong smelling urine
- Pelvic pain in women -especially in the affected part of the body and pelvis and around the lower area of pubic bone.
What are the Main Causes of UTI?
The main causes of urinary tract infections (UTIs) are caused by the bacterium Escherichia coli (E.COLI), usually found in the digestive system. Chlamydia and mycobacterium bacteria can infect the urinary tract but not the bladder.
UTIs are given different names depending on the location of affected part. For example:
- A bladder infection known as cystitis.
- A urethra infection known as urethritis.
- A kidney infection known as pyelonephritis.
What is the Ayurvedic View of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?
The channel carrying urine waste is called mutra vaha srotas in Ayurveda. The origin of the channel begins at the kidneys, the bladder is the container, the ureters are the passageways, and the end or opening is the urethra.
According to Ayurveda, UTIs are due to an imbalance within pitta dosha. Ayurveda’s wisdom offers guidelines to balance pitta dosha and strengthen the urinary tract in order to avoid recurring infection.
Main factors that aggravate pitta dosha and contribute to UTI are:
- Eating foods that are too hot, sour, or spicy
- Drinking alcohol
- Suppressing the urge to urinate
- Habitually retaining urine in the bladder for long periods of time
- Exposure to extreme heat, and overexposure to sunlight.
- Emotion of anger, impatience, jealousy.
- Environmental factors such as working with fire, chemical, or toxic fumes.
- Not drinking enough water.
What is the Ayurvedic Treatment of UTI?
Ayurved provides numerous herbs that deal with all the signs and symptoms in the urinary tract infection. Chandigarh Ayurved centre provides natural and herbal treatment for UTI without causing any side effects on body. This herbal kit comprise of four products in it mentioned below:
1. Liver Care Tablet
The Liver care tablet of CAC is a herbo mineral pure ayurvedic formulation. It mainly works in balancing pitta doshas. liver care tablet consists of ingredients like Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata), Kutaki(Picrorhiza kurroa), Bhumi amla( Phyllanthus niruri), Giloy(Tinospora Cordifolia), Yavakshar( Hordeum vulgare), Imli Kshar( Tamarindus indica), Mukta Shukta pisti etc. Its main function is to improve the circulation of blood. it works against burning sensation of urine, removes urinary infection and other inflammatory conditions.

It’s a 650 mg pure herbo mineral ayurvedic formulation. it treats the root cause of diseases without any side effects. along with the UTI problem it also treats problems related to kidney, urinary bladder, urethra and ureters. it consists of ingredients like Yavakshar (Hordeum vulgare) -200 mg, Kalmi Shora (Potassium nitrate) -150 mg, Nuashadar (Ammonium chloride) -150 mg, Swarna Gairik (Red ochre) -150 mg. It removes the kidney stones, renal colic, painful micturition, hypertension, and burning sensation during the passage of urine. it has antioxidant and anti -inflammatory properties. also useful in dysuria, pelvic pain, urine incontinence, foul odor, etc.
Dosage: take 1 tablet twice daily with plain water after meal.
3. Trikatu Syrup
Trikatu syrup is pure ayurvedic formulation comprises of mainly three herbs such as Pippali (Piper longum), Shunthi (Zingiber officinale), & Marich (Piper nigrum). the main function of trikatu syrup is it removes excess of Kapha doshas and supports the respiratory system, help to reduce body weight and hence detoxifies the body. it has anti-inflammatory , analgesic and antioxidant properties. It boosts metabolism and works in dysuria, painful micturition, and reduce inflammation of the kidney occurs due to any diseases. It is free from chemicals, additives, colors and fillers.
Dosage: 2 tsp twice daily before a meal.
4. Detox Premium Powder
It is purely a herbal formulation that helps to reduce inflammation and burning sensation caused due to UTI infection. It has an anti-inflammatory action. It also helps to remove toxins due to its antioxidant properties. It comprises of Moti Pishti, Parwal Pishti, Shukta Pishti, Giloy Satav, Kamdudha Ras, Jahar Mohra, Akik Pishti, Gandhak Rasayan, Shankh Bhasma, Sutshekhar Ras, Sudhyog Tab, Shwet Parpati, Yavakshaar. Dosage: Take 1/2 or 1 teaspoon of sheet dhara twice daily empty stomach.
Healthy Tips and Diet For Uti Patient
Ayurveda recommends a diet that will balance pitta dosha to cleanse and eliminate the toxins that are bringing too much heat to the body. Drink plenty of water to flush bacteria out of urinary tract.
Avoid
The following foods have an adverse effect on the bladder and should be avoided:-
Alcohol, caffeine, carbonated beverages, coffee, chocolates, refined and processed foods, refined sugars.
Lifestyle
Bacteria can flourish when conditions are warm and moist.
Here are a few tips that help you to stay cool and dry:
- Empty your bladder after taking a bath and sexual intercourse.
- Wear cool, loose fitting cotton underwear and clothing.
- Dry thoroughly after shower or bath.
- Women should use sanitary pads for their menstrual cycle, avoiding tampons and other such products.
- Cultivate emotions of peace and contentment.
Yoga
Do perform yoga poses that will help the kidney and abdominal area such as Cobra (Bhujangasana), Bridge (Setu bhanda Sarvagasana), and Bow (Dhanurasana) pose.
These help to massage and tone the kidneys and improve the function of genito urinary organs and also improve BMR (Basal metabolic rate) of the body.
Pranayama
Do practice Sheetali pranayama (cooling pranayama) or breathing exercise that is effective in reducing excess heat in the body.
It is a practice that brings tranquility and contement to the mind.
Home Remedies for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
- Drink plenty of fluids and water. Hydration rate of the body has been linked to the risk of urinary tract infection.
- Increase vitamins C Intake.
- Drink unsweetened cranberry juice.
- Urinate consistently: urinate consistently and when the urge arises ensures that bacteria isn’t growing in urine that stays in the bladder. It’s also important to urinate soon after sexual intercourse in order to avoid any kind of infection and bacteria that may have entered the urethra.
- Always stay clean and dry.
- Clove oil has antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral activity. It possesses anti inflammatory properties, and is used to relieve pain and promote healing.
- Oregano essential oil can be used as an alternative antibacterial remedy for enhancing the healing process in bacterial infection.
