Introduction
High blood pressure also known as hypertension, is a medical condition in which the force of blood against the walls of our arteries in consistently greater than normal. This put extra strain on your heart and blood vessels and can lead to serious health complications if left untreated. A blood pressure reading of120/80 mmHg or less is considered normal, while a reading of 140/90 mmHg or more is considered hypertension. If your blood pressure is consistently above 130/80mmHg you may be diagnosed with prehypertension, which means you have an increased risk of development high blood pressure in the future.
Causes of Hypertension
- Consuming excessively salty foods
- Smoking and consume alcohol excessively
- Not doing any physical activity
- People who suffer from diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and whose blood arteries are weak, blood pressure becomes high.

- Eat citrus fruits, pomegranate, guava, banana, lemon water, soup, coconut water, soya and flaxseed
- Drink plenty of water
- Consume skimmed milk
- Intake omega 3 in diet
- Eat more foods rich in magnesium, calcium and potassium in their diet
- Eat nutrients rich food green vegetables, pulses, soybean, onion, garlic
- Don’t consume canned foods
- Avoid alcohol and smoking
- Eat less salt
- Avoid chutney, pickle, sauce
- Avoid eat food that is high in fat
Home remedies for Hypertension
1. Garlic
Garlic is very helpful in controlling blood pressure. It balances the production of hydrogen sulfide in the body and controls nitric oxide. This can help the blood vessels to relax and expand. To controlled high blood pressure one or two cloves of garlic can be eaten daily.
2. Watermelon
Watermelon is beneficial in controlling high blood pressure
3. Lemon
In case increase blood pressure, squeeze half a lemon in a glass of water and drink it at an interval of 4 hours. This treats high blood pressure.
4. Coconut
You can also take measures to reduce BP with coconut. You should use coconut water 2-3 times throughout the day. This reduce high BP
5. Onion
It contain large amount of quercetin, a flavonoid antioxidants anti-inflammatory that may help lower blood pressure and reduce risk of heart disease by fighting inflammation and lowering triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
6. Honey
The walls of blood vessels are relaxed with the daily consumption of honey water. The water should be lukewarm and mixed with 2 teaspoons of honey.
7. Fenugreek seeds
Take 1 tablespoon of fenugreek seeds and keep it in water to boil for about 2 minutes. Now filter the fenugreek and drink it when it’s lukewarm
