Sarpagandha is a major medicine in traditional medicine. The history of Sarpagandha Medicinal Uses in India is 3000 years old. Sarpagandha is bitter, pungent, astringent in taste and dry and hot for the stomach. Sarpagandha is a small shiny, evergreen, multivariate shrubby plant whose roots go deep into the soil. The roots are crooked and about 18-20 inches long. The root bark is brownish-yellow. The root is odorless and quite pungent and bitter. The bark of the plant is yellow in color.
Its leaves are tufted, 3-7 inches long, lance-shaped and stalked. The leaves are dark green at the top and light at the bottom. The root of serpagandha is used in the treatment of diseases. Apart from the main species of serpagandha, there are two other species which are used as medicine (sarpagandha). One of them is Rauvolfia tetraphylla L.. It is a small sarpagandha plant uses. Its leaves are spread together in four numbers. The flowers are bunched and are green-white in color. The botanical meaning of the plant of the snakebundha is the Latin name Rauvolfia serpentina Linn. ex Kurz Syn Rauvolfia trifoliata (Gaertn.) is Bail. Sarpagandha Plant Information was given to Europeans in the year 1582 by Leonard Rolf. It is called Rauwolfia in his name. It is a plant of Apocynaceae clan and its English name (Sarpa gandha in English) is Serpentine root, Java devil pepper. Its name in other Indian languages is as follows: –
