LICHEN PLANUS

OVERVIEW

Lichen planus is an inflammatory skin condition in which there occurs irritation and swelling of the skin, mucous membranes, hair and nails. There is presence of small, red raised bumps. These bumps are very itchy and take several weeks to develop. The sores are painful and scaly. It is an overactive response of the immune system. It doesn’t spread from one person to another. Though it is not a serious disease but it is quite uncomfortable. 

Lichen planus can be treated with oral and topical medications which help in suppressing the immune system and thus reducing the symptoms of the disease.

CAUSES OF LICHEN PLANUS

Lichen planus is an auto immune disorder in which the T-cells of the immune system attacks the body’s cells of mucous membranes or skin. Some of the reasons which contribute to the occurrence of lichen planus are: 

• Having a family history of lichen planus
• Skin injury
• Herpes zoster
• Hepatitis C infection
• Stress, emotional or physical
• Allergy to certain chemicals, metals or pigments
• Medications of high blood pressure, arthritis

SYMPTOMS OF LICHEN PLANUS

The common signs and symptoms of lichen planus are:

• Itching on the diseased part
• Reddish purple bumps on the inside of the forearm, wrist, ankle and genital area
• Blister formation
• Crusts or scabs from blisters
• Sores in mouth or genital area
• Lacy whitish patches on lips, tongue or inside the mouth
• Hair loss
• Brittle nails
• Dryness in mouth

COMPLICATIONS OF LICHEN PLANUS

The complications which are associated with lichen planus are:

• Severe pain in sores
• Sexual dysfunction
• Oral ulcers
• Scarring of tissue
• Squamous cell carcinoma
• Oral cancer
• Other skin infections

DIAGNOSIS OF LICHEN PLANUS

The doctor will do a proper examination of the skin of the patient. He will ask about the signs and symptoms of the disease. He will take his complete family history also. He will make the patient do the following tests:

• Allergy tests
• Skin biopsy
• Hepatitis C test

1. Detox Premium Powder

Recommended Dosage – Take 2 teaspoonful twice daily.

3. Twak Tailam

4. Skin care tablet

6. Panchsakar Churna
