INTRODUCTION
· Leptospirosis is a bacterial infections caused by Leptospira bacteria.
· It is a zoonotic disease (a disease that normally exists in animals but that can infect humans). It can be transmitted from animals to humans .
· The bacteria are spread through the urine of infected animals such as rodents , dogs , contaminating water, soil or food .
CAUSES
· Leptospirosis is caused by the bacteria leptospira . it develops when you come into contact with.
· Infected animals
· Urine of infected animals
· Contaminated soil or water
· The bacteria can enter the body through open wounds or mucous membranes, like the eyes or mouth.
SYMPTOMS
· High fever
· Headache
· Nausea and Vomiting
· Abdomen pain
· Muscle aches
· Diarrhea
· Skin Rash
· Red eyes
· Jaundice
RISK FACTORS OF LEPTOSPIROSIS
· Occupation : Direct contact with animals and activities that can lead to skin abrasions and water or soil exposure. The occupations which are more susceptible include :
· Sewage workers
· Farmers
· Veterinarians
· Hunters
· Personnel from military
· Outdoor activities
· Swimming , boating (rivers , streams , lakes) that contaminated with animal urine increase risk of leptospirosis
· Household exposure
· Contaminated sources like pet dogs , domesticated livestock etc. infestation by infected rodents can increase risk.
· Mother -to-child transmission
ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA
Leptospirosis is consider as “krumi Roga “
The treatment approach in ayurveda for leptospirosis involves balancing Doshas , expelling the toxins and strengthening immune system.
It typically includes herbal medicines , detoxifications and lifestyle changes.
HERBS
1. Guduchi (tinospora cordifolia)
Also known as Giloy . It is considered one of the best herbs for boosting the immune system and treating fevers.
2. Punarnava (boerhavia diffusa)
Punarnava is used in ayurveda for its diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties which help in managing symptoms of leptospirosis.
3. NEEM (azadirachta indica)
Neem is known for its antibiotic , antiviral and antifungal properties which helpful in managing infections.
4. `Ginger (zingiber officinale)
Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory and immune -boosting properties which is beneficial during infections.
5. Tulsi (ocimum sanctum)
Tulsi has antimicrobial and immune-modulating properties beneficial in infectious diseases like leptospirosis.
6. Ashwagandha
It is a potent herb that helps with pain and muscle aches associated with leptospirosis.
PREVENTION OF LEPTOSPIROSIS
· Ensure safe drinking water
· Wash fruits and vegetables with filtered or boiled water
· Establishing a proper drainage system
· Wearing protective shoes and clothing if contact with water or soilthat might be contaminated with bacteria.
· Wearing gloves if you have to touch dead animals.
· Covering open cuts or wounds with waterproof dressing.
· Avoiding animals that could have leptospirosis.
