The combination of elements to make kapha dosha is water and earth. It is the structure forming principle. It is like a glue that holds body cells together and provides structural integrity and stability. If kapha dosha in balanced state than it is responsible for lubrication of joints, moisturization of skin, strengthening muscles,bones and immunity. It provides strength, vigour and stability.

SUBTYPES OF KAPHA :
- Avalabaka
- Tarpaka
- Bodhaka
- Shleshaka
- Kledaka
- Avalabaka :
It is located in chest.
Areas of movements in between the shoulder blades.
It supports structures of chest and enables their smooth functioning.
- Kledaka :
It is located in stomach.
Areas of movement in stomach.
It helps in moisten food and covert it into bolus, enables proper digestion of food,balance hyperactivity of pitta.
- Tarpaka:
It is located in head.
Areas of movement in head.
It helps in nourishing brain and sense organs.
- Bodhaka :
It is located in tongue .
Function of bpdhaka kapha is perception of taste.
- Shleshaka :
It is located in joints.
Areas of movement in joints.
It causes lubrication and maintains integrity of bony joints.
SYMPTOMS OF KAPHA IMBALANCE :
- Excess mucous
- Loss of strength
- Cold sweats
- Poor appetite
- Indigestion
- Excess weight gain
- Excessive sleepiness
- Lethargy
- Pallor
- Sluggishness
- Drowsiness
- Hay fever
- Increase in body weight
- Sinus congestion
- Thick white tongue coat.
CAUSES OF KAPHA IMBALANCE:
- Consuming dairy,fatty and oily food
- Excessive intake of cold drinks,frozen and salty food.
- Overeating
- Eating large meals
- Spending too much time in cold climates
- Lack of physical activity
- Sleep during day time
KAPHA PREDOMINANCE DURING DAY :
Kapha dosha is predominant during early morning and before noon. At that time environment will be cold and unctuous, favours increase of kapha This increase will be short lived one. At the time of afternoon once sun is at peak and heat is on kapha will naturally subside when the pitta dosha increases.
HOW TO BALANCE KAPHA DOSHA :
- Eating kapha pacifying food such as bitter,pungent and astringent tasting food.
- Exercise daily
- Yoga
- Use of honey
- Hot and fresh food intake
- Excessive thinking and worrying
- Medicated smoking
- Intake of less food and light to digest food
- Intake of aasav and arishta.
- Awakening late nights
- Stay in warm temperatures.

- Avoid new grains especially wheat.
- Avoid large meals.
CHANDIGARH AYURVED CENTRE MEDICATION FOR THE TREATMENT OF KAPHA DOSHA :
- Cough powder:
This ayurvedic powder helps in pacifying kapha dosha naturally. It is very effective in cough with mucus, cold, and other respiratory disorders. Cough powder is a mixture of some ayurvedic ingredients like talisadi churna, abharak bhasam, godanti bhasam, lakshmi vilas rasa, yashtimadhu churna, tankan bhasma, kaph ketu ras. Recommended Dosage: Take 1 tablet twice a day with normal water.

- Panchasakar Churna:

It is made up of a total of 5 ingredients – Shunthi (Zingiber officinale), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Svaran patri (Cassia angustifolia), Shatapushpa (Foeniculum vulgare),Sauvarchala lavana (Rock salt).
