HOW TO TREAT BRONCHITIS IN AYURVEDA

WHAT IS BRONCHITIS?
Bronchitis occurs when the bronchioles that carrying air to bronchial tubes in the lungs are inflamed and make too much mucus.
There are two basic types of bronchitis:-
- Chronic bronchitis – it is defined as cough productive of sputum that persists for three months.
Initial respiratory infection or illness caused cough and inflammation.
Tobacco, smoke or other irritating substances exposure raised the chances of inflammation.
Chronic bronchitis can cause airflow obstruction known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. - Acute or short-term bronchitis – it is most common type of bronchitis caused by a viral infection.
Episodes of acute bronchitis can be worse by smoking.
Acute bronchitis last for 10 to 14 days.
Possibly causing symptoms for three weeks.
WHAT CAUSES BRONCHITIS?
- Acute bronchitis brought viral infection caused by bacterial infection such as flu and cold.
- Bronchitis can also be caused by exposure to cigarette smoke, air pollution, dust, or toxic gases.
- Family history of bronchitis.
- People having asthma, allergies, and having gastro esophageal reflux disease also increase the risk.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF BRONCHITIS?
Symptoms of bronchitis include:
- Chest congestion
- Cough that bring up mucus have clear, white, yellow, or green in color.
- Shortness of breath
- Wheezing or a whistling sound when you breathe
- Symptoms of acute bronchitis also may include:
- Body aches and chills
- Feeling “wiped out”
- Low fever
- Runny, stuffy nose
- Sore throat
IS BRONCHITIS CONTAGIOUS?
- Acute bronchitis may be contagious because it is usually caused by infection with a virus or bacteria.
- Chronic bronchitis is not to be contagious because it is usually caused by long-term airway irritation.
BRONCHITIS RISK FACTORS
- People have a higher chance of getting bronchitis if
- People smoke.
- People have asthma and allergies.
- People have a weaker immune system.
- People having cold
- Female smoker.
- History of family lung disease.
WHEN SHOULD I CALL MY DOCTOR?
- If cough brings up blood or mucus that thickens or darkens
- Keeps you awake at night
- Lasts more than 3 weeks
- Causes chest pain
- Has a barking sound
- Unexplained weight loss
- A foul-tasting fluid in your mouth
- Fever over 100.4 F
- Wheezing or shortness of breath.
BRONCHITIS DIAGNOSIS
- Check the oxygen levels in your blood
- Do a lung function test
- Chest X-ray
- Blood tests
- Mucus test to rule out diseases caused by bacteria.
ALLOPATHIC TREATMENT FOR BRONCHITIS
- Drink a lot of water at least 8 to 12 glasses a day helps thin out mucus and makes it easier to cough it up.
- Get plenty of rest.
- Take over-the-counter pain relievers. Aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen treat pain.
- Use a humidifier or steam great for loosening mucus.
- Take over-the-counter cough medicines like guaifenesin during the day to loosen mucus so it is easier to cough up.
- Chronic bronchitis treatments target your symptoms and include:
- Medicines like antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and bronchodilators.
- A mucus-clearing device to help you cough up fluid more easily
- Oxygen therapy better breathe.
- Breathing exercise can help breathe more easily.
BRONCHITIS PREVENTION
- Stay away from cigarette smoke.
- Get the flu vaccine
- Get recommended vaccines, such as the flu vaccine or pertussis vaccine
- Wash your hands
- Wear a mask when you are around the things that bother your lungs such as paint fumes.
AYURVEDIC TREATMENT FOR BRONCHITIS
- Broncho care syrup – Broncho care syrup is used to eliminate chronic cough, bronchitis, common cold, whooping cough, etc. This ayurvedic syrup contains Vasa patra (Adhatoda vasica), Kantkari (Solanum surattense), Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Bharangi (Clerodendrum serratum), Chitrakmool (Plumbago zeylanica), Sonth (Zingiber officinale), Pippali(Piper longum), Lasoda (Cordia dichotoma), Pudina (Mentha spicata), etc. These ingredients show antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, bronchodilator properties.
Recommended Dosage – Take 2 teaspoonful twice a day.
- Cough Go Tablets – Cough Go tablets are ayurvedic formulation containing ingredients like Sonth (Zingiber officinale), Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Pippali (Piper longum), Kali mirch (Piper nigrum), etc. These tablets are very effective in bronchitis, cough, cold, nasal problems, and other respiratory problems.
Recommended Dosage – Take 1 tablets twice a day with normal water.
- Kapha Sachet – The powder contains a mixture of herbal ingredients which are mainly made for the treatment of asthma. Their properties generally balance the vata and kapha dosha. The sachet contains ingredients like – Sitopladi churna, Abhrak bhasma, Laxmi vilas ras, Godanti bhasma, etc. It is used mainly in chronic cough, whooping cough and trouble breathing. It also relieves congestion of chest, sore throat. The ingredients loosen the mucus accumulated in the chest thus making it easy to cough it out. Its main therapeutic effects appear on lungs, pleura, and airways.
Recommended Dosage – Take 1 Sachet twice a day with normal water.
- Giloy capsule – Giloy capsules are formed with the standardized extract of herb giloy (Tinospora cordifolia). The Giloy herb improves immunity, removes toxins from body, and purifies blood, beneficial in cough, cold, fever, & bronchitis.
Recommended Dosage: Take 2 capsules twice a day with normal water.
- Trikatu Syrup – Trikatu combines the goodness of Black pepper, Ginger and, Long pepper to create an herbal remedy for digestive ailments, sluggish metabolism, obesity, and high cholesterol. This syrup has best results in anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and expectorant. It also help to tackle the weight problems or obesity. It can modulate your body’s immune response while cutting the characteristic inflammation associated with the back pain.
Recommended Dosage –Take 2 teaspoonful twice a day before meal with normal water.
