Constipation a serious problem if not managed at right time as it can cause various complications. It is a problem with digestive system of an individual when a person passes hard stools that create difficulty in expelling out. This occur only because when your colon absorb too much water from the colon.
The signs & symptoms related to constipation are difficulty while passing stools, abdominal pain, cramps, passing hard stools, bloating, loss of appetite, & headache. There are different causes of constipation such as poor diet, less intake of fluid, excessive consumption of caffeine & alcohol. People use to take laxative and make their habits for removing constipation. The long term use of laxatives makes your constipation chronic. Instead of laxatives always try natural home remedies that will help you to reduce constipation.

1) Aloe Vera
Aloe vera acts as a natural laxative containing anthraquinone glycosides. The aloe vera soften the stools & maintain the bowel movements. Frequent use of aloe vera helps to treat chronic constipation.
How to use:
- Take fresh pulp of Aloe vera & eat it once or twice daily.
- The aloe vera juice should be taken 30 ml once or twice daily on empty stomach.
2) Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acid & various nutrients. The high amount of protein show laxative properties. These properties give good results in chronic constipation.
How to use:
- Take a teaspoonful of flaxseeds with a glass of water.
- You can also made a powder of flaxseeds & put it in a container. Use this powder in your cuisine.
3) Psyllium Husk
The psyllium husk is a very effective and good herb for constipation. It acts as a natural laxative and easily available.
How to use:
- Take a teaspoonful of psyllium husk in a glass of milk. Drink this at night time.
- You can also use psyllium husk in your food items like in dal, soups, & curd.
4) Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are rich in fiber that naturally soften the stools. It increases the frequency of stool & remove constipation.
How to use:
- Take a teaspoonful of chia seeds in a glass of water overnight. Eat it early in the morning on an empty stomach.
- You can also use these chia seeds in curd & yogurt for good & effective results.
5) Castor Oil
Castor oil is a natural laxative that softens the stool. This herbal oil deal with the symptoms related to constipation.
How to use:
- Take a teaspoonful of castor oil add it in glass of hot cow’s milk. Drink this at bedtime so that you get relief from constipation in the morning.
- If you are having pain in lower abdomen than you can massage with the lukewarm castor oil once daily.
6) Indian Gooseberry
Indian gooseberry is commonly known as “Amla”. It is rich in vitamin C & acts as a natural detoxifier. The regular use of this herb helps in removing constipation.
How to use:
- Eat fresh fruit of Amla daily as it is good for your overall health.
- Drink half cup of freshly prepared juice of Amla juice daily as it will help to reduce constipation naturally.
7) Triphala Powder
Triphala powder is composed of three herbs Amla, Haritaki, & Bibhitaki. Take these three herbs in dried form in equal quantity. Make a fine powder and store it in a container. This herbal powder gives good relief from constipation & its symptoms.
How to use:
- Take a teaspoonful of this powder once or twice daily with a glass of lukewarm water at night time.
- You can also make a decoction of this herbal powder. Take half teaspoonful of this powder & add it in a cup of water. Boil it until remaining half cup. Strain the mixture and drink this once daily.
8) Papaya
The fruit of papaya is rich in fiber & nutrient contents. It helps to soothe the stool & can easily pass it from the bowel. So take the fruit of papaya for removing constipation.
How to use:
- Eat a bowl of papaya once or twice daily for removing chronic constipation.
- You can also mash a bowl of papaya & consume it once daily.
Take any of the above home remedy as it is very effective for chronic constipation.
