Home Remedies For Acidity
Acidity is a common issue in today’s life as most people eat junk food & they don’t do any exercises on a daily basis. The gastroesophageal reflux disease takes place when the stomach acid flows back into the tube that connects the mouth and stomach. This back flow of the acid irritates the lining of the esophagus.
Most of the people have acidity problem due to eating heavy meal & lie down at the bed, being overweight, eating food close to bedtime, consumption of certain foods like chocolate, citrus fruits, tomato, onion, garlic, spicy food, fatty food, etc. Drinking beverages like coffee, tea, alcohol, carbonated drinks, being pregnant, smoking, taking certain medications aspirin, muscle relaxant, ibuprofen, & blood pressure medications, etc. The general symptoms that are faced by acidity patients are chest pain, difficulty in swallowing, heartburn, indigestion, a sensation of a lump in the throat, bloating, bloody vomiting, nausea, weight loss, constipation, wheezing dry cough, dysphagia, burping, etc.
People with acidity usually take antacids that is not good for health. As the long-term use of antacids causes side-effects such as it buildup magnesium in the body, altered calcium metabolism, & diarrhea. So avoid antacid for treating acidity instead of that use home remedies that will help you to get good relief. The simple home remedies will give natural & effective results in acidity without causing any side-effects.
So start with the home remedies given below that will help to improve acidity naturally:
1) Cumin Seeds
Cumin is commonly known as Jeera that shows properties like analgesic, detoxifier, antispasmodic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, etc. It acts as a pitta detoxifier. The use of cumin seeds gives good results in reducing acidity, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, loss of appetite, etc.
How to use
- Take a teaspoonful of cumin seeds soaked it in a glass of water. Early in the morning boil the water until remaining half glass. Strain the seeds & drink this herbal tea once daily.
- Roast few cumin seeds after that make a powder of it. Store it in an air tight container. Use a teaspoonful of its powder form in your cuisines.
2) Coriander Seeds
Coriander seeds show calming & carminative effect on the body. The loss of appetite, bloating, spasms, indigestion, nausea, vomiting related to acidity patients are treated with the herb coriander.
How to use
- Take a teaspoonful of coriander seeds to boil it in two cups of water until remaining half cup. Strain the seeds & drink this herbal decoction for removing acidity.
- The powdered form of coriander seeds can be used for treating acidity naturally.
3) Fennel Seeds
Fennel seeds are good herb for reducing acidity naturally without using any antacids. The use of fennel seeds provides a soothing effect on the stomach & prevents stomach spasm. These seeds are loaded with vitamins, minerals, fibers that maintain the digestion process.
How to use
- Take a teaspoonful of fennel seeds & chew eat daily after every meal. It will help you in reducing acidity, spasm, & abdominal pain.
- Take a teaspoonful of fennel seeds in two cups of water. Boil this mixture until the remaining half cup. Strain the seeds, let it cool down, & drink daily.
4) Aloe Vera
The Aloe vera herb is an effective home remedy for acidity. This herb shows anti-inflammatory, analgesic, cooling, & carminative effect on the body.
How to use
- Take the fresh pulp of Aloe vera and consume it for reducing heartburn, acidity, & burning sensation.
- The herbal juice of Aloe vera is also good for health as it reduces acidity naturally & acts as an effective home remedy. So consume 30 ml of Aloe vera juice twice daily on an empty stomach.
5) Green Coconut Water
The green coconut water keeps the stomach acid secretion normal & reduces acidity. Green coconut water is rich in fiber content that prevents the acid reflux, improves loss of appetite, & indigestion problem.
How to use
- Drink green coconut water daily as it flushes out the acid from the body.
- Not only green coconut but you can also drink the water of brown coconut as it is good for health.
6) Indian Gooseberry
Indian gooseberry is commonly known as “Amla” which reduces acidity. The fruit of Amla is also beneficial in healing the damaged stomach lines & esophagus. It prevents loss of appetite, indigestion, heartburn, burning sensation in the chest, etc.
How to use
- Eat fresh Amla fruit daily as it is beneficial for keeping you healthy.
- You can also take 30 ml of Amla juice by mixing an equal amount of water early in the morning on an empty stomach.
7) Mint leaves
The mint leaves are an ideal herb for acidity as it helps in soothing the acid reflux in the stomach. Mint leaves are the best natural coolant that reduces burning sensation, improves digestion, reduces indigestion, prevents nausea, & vomiting related to acidity patients.
How to use:
- Chew a few leaves of mint daily early in the morning for reducing acidity.
- Take a few mint leaves & boil it in two cups of water. Strain the leaves, let it cool down, & drink this herbal decoction.

HOW TO TREAT AND REDUCE ACIDITY NATURALLY:
- Limit high fat foods
- Eat smaller and frequent meals
- Chew your food properly
- Avoid tight jeans

- Spend some time in sun
- Drink lots of water

- Do not overeat.
- Do not remain hungry for long hours
- Don’t skip meals (never a lunch).
- Avoid irregular eating.
