DEFINITION
- Gallstone Pancreatitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the pancreas caused by a gallstone obstructing the pancreatic duct .
- This obstruction prevents the normal flow of pancreatic enzymes into the small intestine , leading to their activation within the pancreas itself. The activation of these enzymes causes inflammation and damage to pancreatic tissue.
CAUSES OF GALLSTONE PANCREATITIS
Gallstone Pancreatitis is primarily caused by gallstone blocking the pancreatic duct.
Other factors that can contribute to the development of gallstone pancreatitis include :
- Obesity
- Certain medical conditions : conditions such as chronic liver disease , certain blood disorders and infections.
- Genetic factors
- pregnancy
SYMPTOMS
- Fever and chills
- Nausea and vomiting
- Severe abdominal pain
- Jaundice
- Tenderness or swelling in the abdomen
- Dehydration
- loss of appetite
- pain that radiates or travels from the original site to the back, shoulder, and chest
AYURVEDA MANAGEMENT FOR GALLSTONE PANCREATITIS
- In ayurveda gallstone pancreatitis as a disorder of the digestive system involving an imbalance of the Doshas (vata , pitta and kapha) and impaired Agni (digestive fire) .
- According to Ayurvedic principles , the formation of gallstones and the inflammation of the pancreas in pancreatitis may be attributed to various factors , including poor diet , lifestyle habits and genetic predisposition which lead to an imbalance in the Doshas.
