OVERVIEW
Frozen shoulder is also known as adhesive capsulitis. It is a condition in which there is pain and stiffness in shoulder joint. It is a very common problem and it develops gradually. With time it gets worse and then goes away on its own. The shoulder joint is made up of three bones – humerus, scapula and clavicle. These 3 bones join each other at a point forming ball and socket joint. The joint is enclosed by a thick capsule. In frozen shoulder, this capsule becomes thick and stiff. There occurs loss of movement.
Treatment of frozen shoulder involves different types of physical exercise to increase the range of motion and some medicines. In rare cases, arthroscopic surgery is required.
