OVERVIEW

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding is a female reproductive disorder in which bleeding from vagina takes place between monthly periods. It is also called anovulatory bleeding. It includes spotting, unpredictable shorter or longer periods and alternating light or heavy periods. The normal menstrual cycle lasts for about 4-5 days and occurs after every 21 to 35 days. The thick endometrial layer gets flushed off every month and then a new layer grows for the preparation of conception. This whole process is hormone regulated.

In dysfunctional uterine bleeding, the imbalance of hormonal levels takes place and the irregular flow of blood occurs. It mostly affects women in their reproductive age. Near about 10%-35% of women are affected worldwide.
