DIET PLAN FOR DENGUE PATIENT

The risk of many diseases increases very much during the monsoon season. Dengue is one such serious disease, due to which thousands of people die in the country every year. This mosquito-borne disease increases the risk of a variety of health complications, which in severe cases can even lead to death. Dengue fever causes millions of deaths each year in many countries in Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa. According to health experts, dengue mosquitoes breed in clean water and often bite during day time, it is necessary to prevent them.
Dengue fever is caused by bite of Aedes mosquito that is infected with dengue virus. Dengue fever does not spread person to person directly. Talking about India, doctors say that the risk of this disease increases more in the country during the last days of monsoon. Dengue cause a problem of high fever, in severe cases it cause internal bleeding and organ failure. In many people, the blood pressure level becomes very low, which can lead to shock. Diet plays an important role in the recovery of patient suffering from Dengue. Patients need to have a sufficient intake of nutrients and a healthy diet to overcome the loss caused by the dengue fever.

DO’S AND DON’TS WHILE FOLLOWING DIET PLAN FOR DENGUE
DO’S & DON’TS
- Give large quantities of fluids with light diet.
- Advice complete bed rest.
- Repeated blood tests are necessary to monitor platelet counts and hematocrit.
- Timely intravenous fluid substitutes to counteract plasma leakage.
- Do not give Aspirin or any NSAIDs for the fever or pain because Aspirin is a blood thinner and NSAIDs exacerbate plasma leakage.
- Never delay treatment especially if symptoms like red spots, bleeding from any site, black stools, excessive drowsiness, breathlessness, paleness of skin and frequent vomiting occur.
