What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus is known as COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that mainly spreads from person to person.
In December 2019, there was a cluster of pneumonia cases was found in China. Investigations found that it was caused by a previously unknown virus and now named the 2019 Novel coronavirus.
Coronavirus is a large group of viruses which consists of a core of genetic material and is surrounded by an envelope with protein spikes. This gives an appearance of crown and in Latin, it is called the corona. That’s why this virus gets the name “CORONAVIRUS”.
Different types of coronavirus show symptoms related to various organ systems of the body such as respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms. In these respiratory symptoms, disease can range from the common cold to pneumonia. In most of the people, the symptoms are generally mild.
However, there are some types of coronavirus that cause severe disease these include SARS-COV (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus) which is firstly identified in china in 2003.
At that time this virus spread across 29 countries and infects more than 8000 people and kills about 800 people. In middle-east respiratory syndrome coronavirus which was identified in Saudi Arabia 2012. In 2019, the Novel Coronavirus was identified in China in the year 2019.
It nationally occurs in a group of people with Pneumonia which is associated with the seafood and liver animal market in the city of Wuhan. The disease was spread to those who were sick to their family members and healthcare workers. There are many cases spread at present within china and all over the whole world and also to several other countries.
What is the origin of the coronavirus?
These viruses originate from a range of animals and sometimes it jumps to humans, this is called a spillover. It can also occur from a range of factors such as mutations in the virus or increase contact between humans and animals.
Detail investigations have found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV was transmitted from dromedary camels to humans.
This animal origin has not been confirmed yet but there is a possibility that it was transmitted from bats to humans by snakes.
How coronavirus can be transmitted?
The respiratory viruses are transmitted through droplets when an infected person coughs or sneeze or through when something is contaminated with the virus. These droplets land on objects or surfaces around the person. Other people can catch this virus by touching those infected objects or surfaces then touching their eyes, mouth or nose.
People can also catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from an infected person who coughs out or exhales droplets. So it is important to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from the person who is sick.
Groups of people who are most at risk of coronavirus:
People who are in close contact with animals such as live animal market workers and those who are caring for those people who are infected with viruses such as family members or health care workers.
What are the symptoms of coronavirus?
There may be several symptoms that range from mild to severe. There can be fever, respiratory symptoms such as cough and shortness of breath. But in most of the severe cases, there is pneumonia, kidney failure, and death.
How coronavirus can be diagnosed?
It can be diagnosed based on a test known as PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). This test identifies the virus which is based upon its genetic fingerprint.
What are the preventive measures to be taken to prevent coronavirus?
Several standard hygiene measures have been recommended to protect against infection and further spread.
This includes:
- Covering your mouth and nose during coughing or sneezing with mask, tissue or flexed elbow.
- Avoiding close contact with those who are unwell or sick.
- The appropriate use of masks and personal protective equipment especially in healthcare centers.
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
Many actions can be taken to prevent infection from an animal source which includes:
- Avoid unnecessary and unprotected contact with animals.
- Wash your hands properly after contact with animals or animal products.
- Ensure that the animal products are cooked thoroughly before consuming them.
It’s important to stay home if you are feeling unwell and if you have a fever, cough and difficulty in breathing seek medical care early. Share your previous travel history with your doctor.
Make sure that the people around you follow good respiratory hygiene. It means that you should cover your mouth and nose during cough or sneeze.
If possible, try to avoid traveling to places especially if you are an older person or having diabetes, heart or lung diseases.
What are the complications of coronavirus?
Patients who are suffering from COVID-19 have pneumonia in both lungs, multi-organ failure and in some of the cases, death may occur.
What is the Ayurvedic treatment for coronavirus?

3. Garlic Capsules
This is purely Ayurvedic preparation. Garlic capsules show anti-fungal, antioxidant, anti-microbial, immune-modulator properties. These capsules contains pure extract of garlic. This is effective in atherosclerosis, diabetes, high level of cholesterol, hypertension.
Recommended Dosage: Take 2 capsules twice daily.
4. Sheet Dhara Syrup
This herbal syrup is prepared from various herbal ingredients such as peppermint, ajwain satav, mushak Kapoor, etc that provides relief such as bloating, blenching, nausea, vomiting, feeling of discomfort, etc.
Regular use of this herbal syrup neutralizes the high acid content, reduces abdominal pain, & cramps that are associated with COVID-19 patients.

5. Trikatu Syrup

6. Panchsakar Churna

Cough Go Tablets are ayurvedic formulation containing Sonth (Zingiber officinale), Mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Pippali (Piper longum), Kali mirch (Piper nigrum), etc. All these ingredients show antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, a bronchodilator, & expectorant properties.
Recommended Dosage: Take 1 tablet twice a day with normal water.
8. Amrit Tulsi Ras
This herbal preparation is in drops form prepared from five types of Tulsi. Shama Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Rama Tulsi (Ocimum gratissimum), Kapoor Tulsi (Ocimum canum), Shwet Tulsi (Ocimum basilicum), Nimba Tulsi (Ocimum citriodorum) that provides good result in cough & cold related problem.
