Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce optimum amount of thyroid hormones. The thyroid hormones are responsible for various functions in our body such as body metabolism, temperature, heart rate, etc. Hypothyroidism is also known as underactive thyroid. It makes a person gain weight, feeling tired, constipation, dry skin, intolerance to cold, etc.
Hypothyroidism can affect people of all age groups. But it is more common in women above 60 years of age. It mostly occurs after menopause.
