NEPHROTIC SYNDROME AND ITS AYURVEDIC TREATMENT

WHAT IS NEPHROTIC SYNDROME?

Nephrotic syndrome is a group of symptoms. These include excess protein in the urine, low levels of protein in the blood, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, risk of blood clots, and inflammation. Nephrotic syndrome can be caused by a multiplicity of diseases that damage the kidney. If kidney is damaged then they excrete a large amount of protein through urine.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF KIDNEY IN NEPHROTIC SYNDROME?

In simple language, it can be said that the kidney acts as a filter in the body, through which the unnecessary excretory substances of the body, excess water, comes out through urine.

In nephrotic syndrome there is a kidney enlargement where sieve-like holes, excess water and excretory substances and essential proteins of the body are excreted with urine. swelling in the patient’s body decrease or increase according to the amount of protein present in the urine.

CAUSES OF NEPHROTIC SYNDROME

Nephrotic syndrome also called primary or idiopathic nephrotic syndrome. There is no actual reason for the existence of this disease. But it believe that this disease occurs due to the improper function of lymphocytes in the white cells. It is absolutely wrong to consider changes in diet or medicines responsible for this disease. 90% of the patients of this disease are children in which no definite cause of nephrotic disease is found.

In adults, less than 10% of cases of nephrotic syndrome can be caused by a different disease or cause. Such as infection, damage caused by any medicine, cancer, hereditary diseases, diabetes, S. Ale. In AD and amyloidosis etc. this syndrome can be due to the above diseases.

SYMPTOMS
Main symptoms of nephrotic syndrome:

  1. This disease mainly appears in children of two to six years. The incidence of this disease in persons of other ages appears to be much less than in children.
  2. The disease usually begins with fever and cough.
  3. The characteristic symptoms of the onset of the disease include swelling under the eyes and on the face. Due to swelling on the eyes, many times patients first go to the eye doctor for examination.
  4. This swelling is more visible when the patient wakes up in the morning, which is the hallmark of this disease. This swelling gradually subsides as the day progresses and subsides completely by evening.
  5. As the disease progresses, the stomach becomes bloated, there is less urination, swelling starts in the whole body and weight increases.
  6. Many times there is a complaint of foaming in the urine and the appearance of white spots in the place where the urine has been urinated.
  7. In this disease there are no symptoms like red urine, shortness of breath or increased blood pressure.
  • DIAGNOSIS
    Diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome:
  • Excessive protein in urine
  • Low blood protein level

  • Physical Examination –
    During physical examination the problem can be detected by looking at patient symptoms.
  • Blood and urine test –
    During this test patient’s blood or urine sample is examined. For this we do blood chemistry test, blood urea nitrogen test, creatinine blood test, creatinine urine test and urinalysis etc.
  • Ultrasound Test –
    With ultrasound the damage done to the internal organs of the body can be detected.
  • Renal biopsy –
    this procedure helpful to diagnose nephrotic syndrome. During this procedure a sample of tissue is taken from the kidney which is examined in the lab to find the cause.

The kidneys are the fist-size organs of the urinary system that balances the body’s fluid.

This urine travels down through the ureters into the bladder, where it gets stored and then it is excreted through the urethra.

A kidney stone is a solid mass that is made up of tiny crystals. There may be single or multiple stones in the kidney or ureters at the same time.

In all these, calcium stones are the most common. They are likely to occur in men between the ages of 20 to 30. This calcium combines with the other substances to form kidney stones.

Oxalate is also the most common of these and is present in various foods such as spinach. It is also found in various vitamin C supplements. Diseases of small intestine increase the risk of this type of kidney stones.

What are the types of kidney stones?

Types of kidney stones include:

Calcium stones: Calcium stones are the most common type and are present usually in the form of calcium oxalate. Oxalate is a natural substance found in food and it is also produced by the liver. Some fruits, vegetables, nuts, and chocolates contain high oxalate content. These can also occur in the form of calcium phosphate and is present in various metabolic conditions, such as renal tubular acidosis.

Struvite stones. Struvite stones result from the urinary tract infection. By the time these can grow quickly and become quite large with few symptoms or little warning.

Uric acid stones. Uric acid stones are mostly found in those patients who drink enough fluids, eat a high-rich protein diet, and who are suffering from gout. Genetic factors also increase the risk of uric acid stones.

Cystine stones. The formation of cysteine stones in the kidneys is hereditary as it causes the kidneys to excrete too much of certain amino acids (cystinuria).

What are the risk factors for kidney stones?

Various risk factors that increase the risk of developing kidney stones include:

  • Family or personal history: Having stones to a family member, also increased the risk of developing another.
  • Dehydration. Not drinking enough water each day may also increase the risk of kidney stones. Warm climate and excessive sweating put on a higher risk than others.
  • Certain diet: Eating diet rich in protein, sodium (salt) and sugar may increase the risk of kidney stones.
  • Being obese: High body mass index (BMI), and excessive weight gain increases the risk of kidney stones.
  • Medical conditions: Various diseases that may increase the risk of kidney stones include cystinuria, renal tubular acidosis, hyperparathyroidism, and some urinary tract infections.

  • Take 10-15 basil leaves and crush them to prepare the paste. Take one teaspoon of this paste, press on a sieve and extract its juice. Add one teaspoon of honey to it and mix well. Drink this once a day.
  • Soak two teaspoons of radish seeds in a glass of water. Boil and reduce this to half. Strain and drink half cup of this two times a day. This helps in dissolving the ckd kidney stones.
