Kutaj ghanvati is a classical Ayurvedic formulation which is pure herbal consists of stem bark of Kutaja as the main ingredient. The meaning of Ghan is dried powder or liquid or decoction and Vati is termed pills or tablets. The dried decoction of Kutaj in tablet form is kutaj ghan vati. Kutaj is an herb that is especially useful in loose motions, dysentery, and other digestive diseases. The botanical name of Kutaj is Holarrhena antidysenterica (Family: Apocynaceae).
INGREDIENTS:

It is also known as Kurchi. It is a small deciduous tree with rough brown bark .It helps in removing the excess fire energy. It has tikta and kashaya rasa shows laghu or ruksha properties. It also shows cold potency which helps to pacify vata and pitta dosha. It is useful in treating diarrhea and dysentery, promotes digestion,
- Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum):
This plant contains aconitic acid, tannic acid, starch, oleic acid,stearicglycerides .It helps in digestion of indigested food or increase secreation of digestive juices , removes warm infestation, purifies blood .It has tikta or katu rasa, laghu or ruksha guna and it also shows cold potency . It has beem purified by swedana process than it is consumed by human beings.

This medication is used to treat sudden diarrhea. It works by slowing down the movement of gut. This allows more time for reabsorption of fluids and nutrients make the stool more solid and less frequent. It belongs to the class of drugs called anti-diarrheal. The chemical formula of loperamide is C29H33ClN2O2.
