Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchioles. The bronchioles carry air to and from the lungs. Due to inflammation, there is swelling and increased mucus production in the bronchi.
Bronchitis is of 2 types: Acute and chronic bronchitis.
Acute bronchitis is more common than chronic. It is caused by a viral infection. Acute bronchitis usually gets cured within a week or 10 days. It has no long lasting effects.
Chronic bronchitis is a more serious condition. It often occurs due to smoking. It persists for three months for two consecutive months. Chronic Bronchitis is included in COPD.
In Ayurveda, Bronchitis comes under Swasa roga. It is called Tamaka swasa. In this, accumulation of kapha and vata occurs in pranavaha strotas.
