It is a problem associated with the mouth that often troubles many people, yet they do not get them treated at the right time. The problem of respiratory odor is common, because people who do not take good care of their mouth cleanliness usually have this problem. Due to bad breath, many times they have to face embarrassment while talking to others. Because whenever you talk, the air blows through your mouth, due to which the smell of your breath is known to others.
Causes of Bad Breath
Although it is generally believed that the mouth smells due to lack of cleanliness of the mouth, but perhaps you do not know that this problem is not just for the mouth or teeth, but there are many reasons behind it. You do not smoke and clean your mouth in a clean manner, but even then your mouth smells, then there is something wrong in the body.
Food – The breakdown of pieces of food in and around your teeth can cause deodorant. Foods containing thin oily food can also be the cause of bad breath. Onions and garlic are the best examples of this, but other vegetables and spices can also cause bad breath. When these foods are digested and the pungent oils are added to your bloodstream, they reach your lungs and keep coming out of your breath until the food is completely eliminated from your body. Onion and garlic can cause bad odor in the breath for 72 hours after eating.
Tooth problems – Bad teeth cleaning and tooth diseases can be the cause of bad breath. If you do not brush and rinse every day, pieces of food remain in your mouth. They produce bacteria and make hydrogen sulfide steam. A colorless and sticky film of bacteria (decay) gets deposited on your teeth.
Dry mouth – Saliva helps in keeping moisture in the mouth and keeping the mouth clean. Dead cells in the dry mouth accumulate under the tongue, gums and cheeks. These cells can cause deodorant. Dry mouth problems usually occur at bedtime.
Diseases– Severe lung infection and lump in lungs can cause very bad odor in breath. Other diseases, such as certain cancers and metabolic disturbances, can also cause bad breath.
Mouth, nose and larynx– Bad breath is also associated with sinus infection, because the fluid flowing through the nose from the sinus goes into your throat and causes bad breath.
Tobacco products- Smoking dries the mouth and causes a bad odor. Consumers of tobacco also have dental disease, which becomes an additional source of bad breath.
Severe dieting – Bad dietary breath may develop in dieters. It is caused by ketoacidosis, which is caused by the breakdown of chemicals during fasting.
Do not have breakfast– Breakfast is made in the mouth by spitting in the morning, which keeps the tongue clean and also eliminates bacteria.
Mouth Ulcer- Due to ulcer in the mouth, pus often accumulates in it and blood also starts to flow, due to which the chances of infection increase.
Bleeding from the gums – If blood comes from your gums, sometimes that blood accumulates in the mouth which causes stink.
Throat infection – If you have a throat infection, the bacteria breaks down the cells of the bronchial tract, causing smell.
Cancer – Oral cancer occurs in people who smoke for a long time or eat tobacco, so a strong smell comes from the mouth.
Lung infection – Lung infection is a cause of bad odor from the mouth. Apart from this, the lump in the lungs also causes bad breath. Metabolic disturbances also cause bad breath.
Sinus infection– A cause of bad breath is a sinus infection, because the fluid flowing through the nose from the sinus goes into your throat and causes deodorant in the breath, which causes odor from the mouth. In such a situation one should immediately go to the doctor.
Tonsils– In this, bacteria get collected when there is an infection, it can also be the reason for the stench.
Lack of zinc– If there is a deficiency of zinc in the body, the breath smells. Diabetes and gum disease also cause bad breath. To avoid this deodorant, such things should be eaten, which should meet zinc deficiency. Rinse regularly to keep the mouth clean.
Improper digestion- When a person’s food is not digested properly and the stomach is bad, it still smells from the mouth. If digestive problems persist for a long time, it can damage the large intestine. This can lead to ulcers.
Dental diseases- Due to rot in the teeth, pyorrhea or any deficiency of teeth and gums, there is also bad odor from the mouth. You should clean the teeth properly so as not to stink. Apart from this, you can also put cloves in the mouth, which will not smell.
Kidney Disease – Due to kidney disease, metabolic changes occur in the body, due to which there is a problem of dry mouth in the body, due to which the mouth smells.
Prevention Tips for Bad Breath
Some changes are needed in the diet and lifestyle to avoid the problem of bad mouth. Like-
Diet-
- Eating more spicy food, onion, garlic, ginger, cloves and pepper can cause bad mouth odor. Use them sparingly and keep the mouth clean whenever you rinse or brush.
- Drink water as needed. Do not consume alcohol and tobacco, both these are the cause of dry mouth. Eating chewing gum or sweets (sugar-free) helps in the formation of saliva. If your mouth dries frequently, you can correct your saliva flow by taking medication from a doctor.
- Stay away from onion, garlic and spicy foods. Eat less sweet because it also smells bad in the mouth. Reduce your intake of coffee and alcohol. Use whole grains for breakfast, which makes it easier to clean the back of your tongue.
Avoid smoking and do not use other tobacco products.
- Visit the dentist regularly for teeth cleaning.
- Due to poor digestion and upset stomach, the smell can also come from the mouth. For this, it is necessary to walk for some time after eating or take digestive things.
- Fennel, peppermint, cardamom, liqcorice, roasted cumin, coriander etc. are natural mouth fresheners to be chewed after meals and at other times. This will reduce the smell of the mouth.
Lifestyle-
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness of the mouth and teeth. Tooth regularly In addition to brushing, also rinse between teeth for cleaning.
- Use tongue cleaner to clean the tongue and sweep to the end of the tongue.
- Visit your dental doctor regularly and get your teeth cleaned properly.
- If you have got fake teeth then keep them clean daily. By cleaning the mouth, you can reduce the chances of bacteria forming and getting inside the mouth.
Home Remedies for Bad Breath

Green tea beneficial in removing bad smell
Mouth odor can be reduced with the use of green tea, it contains antibacterial components that remove odor.
1. Mulethi beneficial in removing bad mouth
Chewing liquorice daily removes bad odor and reduces the problem of recurrence.
2. Clove beneficial in removing bad odor of mouth
Chewing cloves lightly and chewing them by keeping them in the mouth, removes the bad smell of the mouth. Clove is used as a treatment for many mouth problems.
3. Mint Beneficial for Bad Breath
Grind the mint and dissolve it in water. Rinse with this water three to four times a day can cure bad odor and other diseases.
4. Ginger beneficial in removing bad smell of mouth
When the smell comes from the mouth, dissolve 1 teaspoon of ginger juice in 1 glass of water and rinse it two to three times a day, it removes bad smell of the mouth
5. Fennel Seed Beneficial for Bad Breath
If there is foul smell in the mouth due to poor digestion, chew half teaspoon aniseed both times after meals. This removes the stench of the mouth and opens the sitting voice.
6. Lemon Beneficial for Bad Breath
If you are struggling with bad breath, then squeezing one lemon in one glass of water in the morning and rinse it can provide quick relief.
7. Pomegranate bark is beneficial in removing bad smell of mouth
If the pomegranate peel is boiled in water and rinse it daily with that water, the smell of the mouth starts to decrease gradually.
8. Dry Coriander Beneficial for Bad Breath
Dried coriander has been used as a mouthfreshener for centuries. Dried coriander is a good mouthfreshener, keeping it in the mouth and chewing it removes the bad odor of the mouth.
9. Coriander Beneficial for Bad Breath
Eating green coriander causes fragrance in the mouth. Chewing green coriander after eating things that smell onions, garlic etc. stops smelling from the mouth.
10. Tulsi for bad breath
Chewing the basil leaf also removes the stench of the mouth, and if there is any wound in the mouth, basil is also beneficial for that.
11. Rose Petal Beneficial for Bad Breath
Chewing fresh petals of rose and rubbing it on the gums destroys the smell of gum diseases.
12. Gargle with Salt Beneficial for Bad Breath
Every day by adding salt to hot water and rinse, the odor of the mouth gradually reduces.
