DEFINITION
- Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) , is a developmental disorder that affects communication , behavior and social interaction.
- It is called a “Spectrum” disorder because People with ASD can have a wide range of symptoms and abilities , ranging from mild to severe .
- ASD often demonstrate restricted and repetitive interests or patterns of behavior.
TYPES OF AUTISM
- Asperger’s syndrome : This had milder symptoms .
- Autistic disorder : This was considered the most severe form of autism characterized by significant language delays , social challenges and repetitive behaviors.
- Childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD) : This was a rare condition where a child appeared to develop typically for the first few years of life but then a significant loss of skills in areas such as language , social and motor skills.
- Pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) : This category was used for individuals who had some symptoms of autism but did not fit the criteria for other subtypes . It was often referred to as atypical autism.
CAUSES OF AUTISM
The exact cause of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is not known . Some factors that may contribute to development of autism include :
- Genetics
- Prenatal factors : Such as advanced parental age , maternal illness during pregnancy , certain medications , complications during birth.
- Brain development : Abnormalities in brain structure or function may contribute to the development of autism.
- Environmental factors : such as exposure to air pollution , pesticides or heavy metals may increase the risk of autism.
- Immune system dysfunction
SYMPTOMS
- A lack of eye contact
- Restricted interests : Often have intense interests in specific topics or activities.
- Motor difficulties : Some individuals with autism may have motor coordination difficulties such as clumsiness or awkwardness in movement.
- Sensory sensitivities : High sensitivity to loud noises , bright lights or certain textures.
- Trouble adapting to changes in routine
- Trouble understanding what other people are thinking or feeling.
- Repetitive behaviors : such as rocking , hand-flapping or repeating words or phrases .
- Social difficulties : They may have difficulty understanding social cues such as facial expressions or body language

In Ayurveda Autism is correlated with “Unmada “and “Apasmar”.

- Turmeric

This herb have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties . This herb is used to improve memory , concentration and thinking skills.

1. Brodley syrup –
Brodley syrup is very beneficial in curing autism as it includes various natural herbs that are mainly used for providing the strength to the nervous system. The herbal syrup is made up of – Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis), Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Saunf (Foeniculum vulgare), etc. that acts as an anti-depressant and also helps in reducing the stress. 4. Shishu Bharna Rasa –
Dhootapapeshwar Shishu Bharan Rasa helps in proper physical and mental development of children. The presence of Madhumalini Vasant in Shishu Bharan Rasa improves Bala and Pushti of children by enhancing Mansa Pushti and Jatharagni Vardhan Karya.

5. Stress care tablet –
It is an amazing combination of natural herbs like Sarpgandha, Brahmi, Tagar, jatamansi. It helps to relieve stress conditions. They help to pacify the nervous system and also helps to increase mental and physical performance. In Ayurveda when there is an imbalance of three energies i.e. Vata, pitta, and Kapha, it leads to disease. Vata has a sub dosha named prana doshas which regulates the sensory perception, brain, and mind. Tarpak Kapha subtype of kapha, governs cerebrospinal fluid, sadhak pitta subtype of pitta doshas governs emotions and their impact on the heart. So any vitiation of these doshas leads to stress.
Recommended Dosage – Take 1tablet twice a day with normal water.
