DEFINITION
- Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) , is a developmental disorder that affects communication , behavior and social interaction.
- It is called a “Spectrum” disorder because People with ASD can have a wide range of symptoms and abilities , ranging from mild to severe .
- ASD often demonstrate restricted and repetitive interests or patterns of behavior.
TYPES OF AUTISM
- Asperger’s syndrome : This had milder symptoms .
- Autistic disorder : This was considered the most severe form of autism characterized by significant language delays , social challenges and repetitive behaviors.
- Childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD) : This was a rare condition where a child appeared to develop typically for the first few years of life but then a significant loss of skills in areas such as language , social and motor skills.
- Pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) : This category was used for individuals who had some symptoms of autism but did not fit the criteria for other subtypes . It was often referred to as atypical autism.
CAUSES OF AUTISM
The exact cause of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is not known . Some factors that may contribute to development of autism include :
- Genetics
- Prenatal factors : Such as advanced parental age , maternal illness during pregnancy , certain medications , complications during birth.
- Brain development : Abnormalities in brain structure or function may contribute to the development of autism.
- Environmental factors : such as exposure to air pollution , pesticides or heavy metals may increase the risk of autism.
- Immune system dysfunction
SYMPTOMS
- A lack of eye contact
- Restricted interests : Often have intense interests in specific topics or activities.
- Motor difficulties : Some individuals with autism may have motor coordination difficulties such as clumsiness or awkwardness in movement.
- Sensory sensitivities : High sensitivity to loud noises , bright lights or certain textures.
- Trouble adapting to changes in routine
- Trouble understanding what other people are thinking or feeling.
- Repetitive behaviors : such as rocking , hand-flapping or repeating words or phrases .
- Social difficulties : They may have difficulty understanding social cues such as facial expressions or body language

Myasthenia Gravis is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle resulting in weakness of the skeletal muscles. It affects the voluntary muscles of the body, mainly those muscles that control the eyes, mouth, throat and limbs.
CAUSES OF MYASTHENIA GRAVIS:
- The causative factor is unknown, but the disorder may have a genetic link
- In myasthenia gravis, the receptors at the muscle surface are destroyed or deformed by antibodies that prevent a normal muscular reaction from occurring.
- Autoantibodies that destroys acetylcholine receptors
- Thymus tumors
SYMPTOMS OF MYASTHENIA GRAVIS:
- In eyes
- Diplopia
- Drooping of one or both eyelids.
- Face and throat muscles
- Difficulty in swallowing
- Impaired speech
- Changes facial expression
- Laryngeal involvement produces dysphonia.
- Bulbar muscle weakness cause nasal regurgitation.
- Chest
- Respiratory failure is caused by weakness in the diaphragm and chest muscles that may lead to myasthenia crisis.

According to the Ayurveda ,the best time to wake up before sunrise and sleep before 10pm .when the kapha period has induced dullness in the body. It’s also important to have a gap of at least 2 hours between dinner and sleep time. The three types of dosha in ayurveda :- vata,pitta, kapha.these three dosha are responsible for good health. the dosha determine various function include sleeping. sleep is caused by increased kapha, insomnia is caused by vata and pitta dosha. In ayurveda sleep is compared with nidra .nidra is one among the three upstambha. It is also important as ahara. sleep is considered as a basic instinct of life which is essential for all living beings.
DEFINITION OF SLEEP:
When the mind gets exhausted or becomes inactive and the sensory , motor organs also becomes inactive then the individual sleep. During sleep our body enters into anabolic state that restores the body critical functions like immunity .
TYPES OF SLEEP :-
ACCORDING TO ACHARYA CHARAK :
1 . TAMOBHAVA :-
It is a type of sleep which is caused by increase in tamas guna .when tamas guna increase person will feel inside the shell of darkness .it can be natural when it occurs at night time .
2. SHLESHMA SAMUDHBHAVA NIDRA :-
It is a type of sleep which is caused by kapha dosha . kapha is said to be predominant in childhood. Children sleep more than a adult .
3. MANAH SHARIRA SHRAMA SAMBHAVA NIDRA :-
It is a type of sleep which occurs when there is exhaustion of mind and body.
- AGANTUKI NIDRA :-
It is caused by the externally such as effect of some medicines , injury etc.
- VYADHYANUVARTINI NIDRA :-
It is a type of disease which is caused by complication of some disease such as sannipataj jwar
- RATRI SWABHAVA PRABHAVA NIDRA :-
It is a type of sleep comes naturally at night time and it is healthy kind of sleep .
EFFECT OF DOSHA ON SLEEP :-
6-10 AM, PM :- KAPHA DOSHA is dominant . In which prithvi (earth) and jal (water) elements is involved . In stomach food gets mixed with digestive juices and initial stage of digestion sets in it. There is heaviness in head ,eyes and wole part of body which makes sleep easier. Most part of relaxation happened this time .
11-2 AM,PM: – PITTA DOSHA is dominant in which agni (Fire) and jal (water) elements is involved. Most part of the digestion and metabolism occurs at this stage .
3-6 AM, PM:- VATA DOSHA is dominant in which air (air) and space(akash) elements is involved . 3-6 am stool and urine formation happens more at this stage mind becomes more and more active at this time .
HOW MUCH SLEEP IS ENOUGH ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA :-
Sleep according to ayurveda varies as per the prakriti of person. vata prakriti person requires more sleep.pitt prakriti person require moderate sleep. kapha prakriti person will require less time for sleep . In addition the mental status of person , health condition, age , determine how much sleep require for a person . 6-8 hours of sleep require for a healthy person.
BENEFITS OF SLEEP:-

WHY DAYTIME SLEEP IS CONTRAINDICATED:-
Day time sleep is good in summer season because nights are shorter during summer and vata dosha increases . In other season if person sleep in day time they will suffer from ajirna roga (indigestion) .
INDICATION FOR SLEEP IN DAY TIME :-
- If someone has been suffering from any injury or disease can sleep during the day time .
- People with weakness.
- People who work at night time.
- Elder or young children
AYURVEDIC TIPS FOR A GOOD SLEEP :-
- Fix your times to wake and sleep .
- Increase kapha food( which are sweet in taste) intake at bedtime if suffer from insomnia .
- Padabhyanga (massaging your feet).
- Listening to gentle and calming sounds .
- Eat boiled rice with yoghurt.
- Sleeping area is a comfortable clean and free from noise.
- Taking a hot shower or a relaxing bath.
- Make lunch is biggest meal of the day :-
- At noon when the sun is highest in the sky , the agni is also higher at that time and it is better to process a big meal.
- At evening, agni is weaker the problem will that is when the people is eating a big meal in the evening .agni can not digest the food easily or cause sleep disturbance .
- Night time is the best time to rest , recharge and repair. If people take a big meal at dinner time the the body needs more work hard to digest the food .so, that aim for bigger lunch and lighter dinner abd finishing a minimum time of 3 hours before bedtime.
- Avoid caffeine , alcohol and nicotine late in the day.
- Avoid bright light in the evening and expose yourself to sunlight in the morning.
- exercise 20-30 minutes a day.
GOOD FOODS TO EAT BEFORE SLEEP :-
- Almonds are a good source of the sleep which regulates the melatonin hormone .
- Kiwi fruit are rich in serotonin and antioxidants they help to improve sleep quality .

STOMATITIS AND ITS AYURVEDIC TREATMENT

Stomatitis is defined as the inflammation of mouth and lips. It affects the mucous membrane of mouth and lips, with or without oral ulceration.
CAUSES OF STOMATITIS:
- Dry mouth
- Trauma from ill-fitting dentures or braces
- Tobacco use
- Infection such as herpes simplex viruses or herpes zoster.
- Side effects of chemotherapy, radiation
- Weakened immune system.
- Deficiency of Vitamin -B12, zinc, Iron.
- Biting of cheeks
- Poor oral hygiene
- Irritating food or chemicals.
- Systemic disorders
- Eating hard food items that cause friction.
TYPES OF STOMATITIS:
- Herpes stomatitis:
It is the infection caused by herpes simplex virus. It is a fluid filled sores that occurs around the lips. It is usually painful and last upto7-10 days. It is associated with flu like symptoms.
- Aphthous stomatitis:
It is a condition which is characterized by repeated formation of benign and non-contagious mouth ulcer. It is also termed as canker sore. It can be painful and last up to 5-10 days. It is not associated with fever.
SYMPTOMS OF STOMATITIS:
- Red patches
- Blisters
- Swelling of mouth
- Pain or irritation on lips, cheeks, gums, tongue.
- Burning sensation in mouth

Mix tablespoon of salt in lukewarm water. Gargles by using this liquid. It has antiseptic properties.

INTRODUCTION
Epilepsy is a chronic disorder in which there occur repeated seizures due to production of abnormal electrical signals in brain. It is also known as seizure disorder. It is a very common problem and it affects people of all genders and ages. Epilepsy is of different types and there has not been found exact cause of the disease. The symptoms of epilepsy vary from person to person. Some people who have epilepsy during childhood, outgrow this condition with age. A single seizure doesn’t mean a person is having epilepsy. But if he or she gets two seizures at a time span of 24 hours apart, then he/she is diagnosed with epilepsy.
The treatment of epilepsy includes some oral medications and a healthy lifestyle. With a balanced diet and regular physical exercise, the symptoms can be managed. In some cases, the treatment is required lifelong. However, in others, the seizures eventually go away.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF EPILEPSY?
Epilepsy is of various types depending on the area of brain affected:
Focal onset seizures: It starts in one area or one side of brain. It is also known as partial onset seizure.
Generalized onset seizures: In this, a large area of brain cells is affected on both sides of the brain at the same time.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF EPILEPSY?
There has not been found any exact cause of the disease but some of the factors can be responsible for this. Following are the possible causes of epilepsy:
- Having a genetic predisposition to epilepsy
- Head injury
- Autoimmune disorders in which the cells of immune system start attacking the cells of brain and thereby damage them
- Abscess in brain
- Infections in brain such as encephalitis, meningitis, neurocysticercosis, etc

Introduction
Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease of connective tissue. This causes fibrosis and tissue thickening. In this condition the skin becomes hard. Scleroderma may cause patches on the skin. Red spots on hands and face and thickening of fingers can also be symptoms of scleroderma. It can affect not only the skin but also many major organs. If we want to understand in simple language, scleroderma is a serious disease. In this extra collagen is produced on the skin. In such a situation, normal tissue combines with extra collagen and turns into thick tissue.
Types of Scleroderma
Localized Scleroderma– The disease affects the cells above and below the skin. There is also a risk of eye disease uveitis in localized scleroderma. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of arthritis in localized Scleroderma.
Systemic Scleroderma- When someone has systemic scleroderma, it affects the body both internally and externally.
