Alzheimer’s is a neurological disorder which is progressive in nature. In this, the death of brain cells occurs causing loss of memory and other cognitive functions.
The most common symptom of alzheimer’s disease is dementia (memory loss). The symptoms are at first mild in nature and then beome severe.
There is presence of plaques in the cells of brain and the nerve cells thus lose connection with each other. Then occurs gap in communication and patient finds difficulty in remembering things.
With time the conditon of patient deteriorates and he needs full time assistance. The patient becomes unable to do his daily chores.
There are various types of treatment available for treating alzheimer’s disease. The medicines slow down the progression of symptoms or improve them temporarily.
However, there is no pemanent cure of the disease.
In Ayurveda, alzheimer’s disease is caused due to aggravation of vata dosha. There is also vitiation of the 3 gunas – satva, rajas and tamas.

CHIKUNGUNYA

- Chikungunya is a viral infection which spreads by the bite of an infected mosquito. It is caused by aedes aegypti mosquito. This mosquito is additionally responsible for dengue and zika virus.
- It can spread through infected blood and rarely from mother to the newborn child.
- The most typical symptoms of chikungunya are joint pain and fever.
- Severe outbreaks of chikungunya have occurred in africa, asia, caribbean, europe, indian and pacific oceans. Travellers are most typically affected.
- The virus can spread from affected areas to the new ones.
- Chikungunya symptoms usually subside within 1 week. However, in some cases, they last for months.
- People suffering from chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, etc. are at more risk to chikungunya.
SYMPTOMS OF CHIKUNGUNYA
Symptoms begin after an incubation period of 3-7 days. The signs and symptoms associated with chikungunya are:
- Fever
- Joint pain
- Headache
- Muscle ache
- Swelling in joints
- Redness in eyes
- Rashes
- Death is rare from chikungunya
Patients generally get better within a week. But joint pain can persist for a few months. Once someone gets infected, he/she gets protected from future infections.
DIAGNOSIS OF CHIKUNGUNYA
- The doctor will take complete medical history of the patient. He will do his physical examination.
- He will take the travel history of the patient.
- He may order some blood tests also.
TREATMENT OF CHIKUNGUNYA
There has been found no vaccine of chikungunya either for its prevention or its treatment. Only symptomatic treatment is done:
- One should drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration
- Proper rest
- Medicines like acetaminophen or paracetamol for reducing fever and pain
- Avoid aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce risk of bleeding
PREVENTION OF CHIKUNGUNYA
- Chikungunya spreads from the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes bite both during day and night.
- So to prevent chikungunya one should protect himself/herself from mosquito bites.
- Following are the steps which should be taken to prevent chikungunya:
- Use mosquito repellants
- Wear long sleeved shirts
- Wear trousers to cover legs
- Use screens on windows and doors.
- Use air-conditioners
- Use mosquito nets
- Maintain cleanliness in home and in surroundings

In ayurveda, chikungunya comes under sannipattik jwara. Following are the herbs which help in relieving symptoms of the disease:
Turmeric

INTRODUCTION
- Ulcerative Colitis IBD, also known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease. In this disease the gastro-intestine of the person gets affected. Along with this, there is inflammation in the lining of the colon or large intestine and its rectum. This inflammation on the colon is known as ulcer. This is where the ulcers gradually develop in the rectum and spread upwards. This inflammation of the large intestine causes the bowel to empty. The disease also kills the surface cells of the large intestine. This ulcer often causes problems with bleeding and mucus etc.
- Ulcerative colitis can affect anyone of any age, but one study reported that it most commonly occurs in people between the ages of 15 and 30 and those between the ages of 50 and 70. A person suffering from this disease has to face many problems. Today, in this article, we will tell you what changes should be made in the diet of a person suffering from ulcerative colitis.
SYMPTOMS OF ULCERATIVE COLITIS
- Persistent mild or severe abdominal pain lasting 1 week or more

Fruit juice
Consumption of fruit juice can be beneficial in the problem of ulcerative colitis. Actually, the consumption of many fruits is considered beneficial in this disease. According to a research done on rats, pomegranate, fig and date juice can provide relief in ulcerative colitis. Behind this, the anti-inflammatory properties present in these three fruits can be considered beneficial.
At the same time, in another research, it has been told that noni fruit is rich in anti-inflammation properties, which can play an important role in preventing inflammatory diseases.
Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory effects, which may prove useful in inflammatory diseases, including ulcerative colitis (6). Salmon, mackerel, tuna, herring and sardines can be consumed to supply omega-3 fatty acids (7). In such a situation, it is believed that the consumption of foods containing omega-3 fatty acids may be helpful in ulcerative colitis.
Squash, pumpkin
One of the answers to what to eat in ulcerative colitis may be squash. A research published on the website of the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) suggests that consuming certain diets, including squash, may reduce inflammation in ulcerative colitis. However, keep in mind that the pumpkin should be fully ripe and not contain seeds.
Brown rice
Brown rice is considered good for ulcer colitis patient’s health. A research related to this has been told that patients of ulcerative colitis have been advised to consume brown rice instead of white rice. Actually, anti-colitis effect is found in brown rice, which can help in controlling the problem of ulcerative colitis to a great extent. On this basis, it can be assumed that brown rice can be consumed in ulcerative colitis.
Sweet potato
Sweet potato can be considered as one of the suitable diet in the problem of ulcerative colitis. According to a research, sweet potato has anti-inflammatory properties. As we mentioned above that the main cause of ulcerative colitis is inflammation in the intestines. CAUSES OF PROBLEM
the exact cause of AS is yet to be identified. Now research is being done by scientists on this. However, heredity is believed to be the main cause because most patients with AS share a common gene called HLA-B27, on the basis of which scientists have come to the conclusion that heredity may be the main cause of this disease.
