However, due to some reason if bile is not removed by the body properly, its amount gets increased in blood causing jaundice. Some of the other reasons for jaundice are gall stones, hepatitis and tumors.

Gall stones are hard deposits of digestive fluid present in gall bladder. Gall bladder is a small sac like structure present beneath the lower surface of liver on the right upper side of abdomen.
Liver produces a juice called bile. Bile is stored in gall bladder. When there is excess of cholesterol in bile, it leads to formation of concretions which later develop into a stone.
There are two types of gall stones – cholesterol stones and pigment stones. 80% of the gall stones are cholesterol stones.
The size of gallstones ranges from a grain of sand to the size of a golf ball. Some people have just one gallstone whereas others develop multiple gallstones.
Most of the common symptom associated with it is pain in right side of abdomen radiating towards the back or is related to pain in right shoulder.
The treatment of gallstones usually involves surgical removal of gall bladder.
