INTRODUCTION
According to Ayurveda, our body is made up of five elements which are water, earth, sky, fire and air. These five elements are also known as Panch Mahabhoot and this Panch Mahabhoot is the source of subtle energy of our body. In religious point of view also these Panch Mahabhutas have great importance, because our universe has originated from the combination of these things and our body has originated from these combinations. These five elements live in harmony with each other in our body and keep the body healthy. Doshas are born from the combination of these five Mahabhutas. A dosha is born out of a combination of two great elements, which are mentioned below:-
- Vata Dosha – Air and Sky
- Pitta Dosha – Fire and Water
- Kapha Dosha – Earth and Water
Vata, Pitta and Kapha all three are present in our body in balanced quantity, but if any element increases or decreases in these three, then we may have to face many physical problems due to it. These are called doshas because of the problems arising due to disturbances in the balance of these three. Since these doshas are three in number, they are collectively called Tridosha. Ayurveda clearly believes that if the balance of any one of these three doshas is disturbed, then many physical problems are bound to arise which can range from moderate to severe and severe to very severe. Let us know in detail about these three doshas one by one.

In simple words, the element which generates movement or enthusiasm in the body is called ‘Vata’ or ‘Vayu’. Vata helps in the movement of the body, such as circulation of blood. The blood flowing in our body would flow from one place to another due to Vata. Not only this, all the metals present in the body are also able to do their work due to this Vata and the contact of any one part of the body with another part is also possible due to Vata.

Water is the most essential substance for the survival of living beings on earth. Human bodies are made up of 70% water. It helps in various metabolic processes such as digestion of food, removing toxins from the body, carrying nutrients and oxygen to different body parts. It contains different types of electrolytes and thus helps in maintaining osmotic balance. It exists in various forms in oceans, seas, rivers, glaciers, ponds and groundwater.
There are several types of drinking water which have come in markets. It is different on the basis of origin, consistency, composition and treatment.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF DRINKING WATER
The different types of drinking water are:
- Tap water
- Mineral water
- Spring water
- Sparkling water
- Distilled water

- Flavored water
TAP WATER
The water which comes directly from tap is called tap water. It comes in water through pipelines which is taken either from a dam or a river. It is used for performing household works such as cleaning, cooking, washing, gardening, etc. But tap water is not always suitable for drinking. It needs to maintain some municipality standards. Or one should use water purifiers at home for water purification.
MINERAL WATER
The water which is obtained from underground sources is rich in minerals such as magnesium, calcium and manganese, etc. this water is called mineral water. There cannot be addition of any other minerals but it is subjected to processes like iron removal or carbonation before packaging. But it contains some micro-organisms in it.
SPRING WATER
Spring water is the water which is obtained from natural springs which comes from underground source. Sometimes this rainwater collects underground and then comes on the surface as springs. This water is mostly free from contaminants as it is from the underground source. So it is safe for drinking. It has natural and refreshing taste.
SPARKLING WATER
It is also known as soda water or carbonated water. There is addition of some carbon dioxide in it under pressure, thus making it frizzy or sparkling.
DISTILLED WATER
It is the other name of demineralised water. In the process, minerals and salts are removed by distillation and reverse osmosis. Distilled water is the purest form of water but it is not advisable for drinking as there are no minerals in it.
WELL WATER
Well water is the main source of water supply in rural areas. It is not commonly seen in urban areas. During rain, water flows down the cracks in soil and gets accumulated underground. This becomes the underground water reservoir. But the water can be polluted with chemicals present in soil and bacteria. The water can contain some of the harmful chemicals like arsenic which causes metal poisoning. It depends on the locality of the well.
FLAVORED WATER
Flavored water is the water which is sweetened by adding either sugar or artificial sweeteners. So it tastes a little bit sweet. It is a tasty alternative to just plain water. There can be infusion of fruits or vegetables also. Due to presence of sugar, it is not good for diabetes and obese people.

WHAT IS GHEE?
Ghee is a staple product which has been used in Indian cuisine since times immemorial. Ghee is a Sanskrit word which means sprinkled. It is a type of clarified butter which is more concentrated in fat as compared to butter. In butter, there is more amount of milk solids and water but in ghee, they are removed. It was made in ancient times as an alternative to butter as it get spoiled earlier. Ghee can be kept at room temperature for longer period.
In Ayurveda, ghee is called ghrita. It is used as a medicine in various types of diseases.
WHAT ARE THE PROPERTIES OF DESI GHEE?
Ghee is a rich source of several types of vitamins such as vitamin A, C, D, K and E. It is having great antioxidant properties. Thus, it is helpful in reducing the risk of heart diseases, arthritis, cataracts and cancer. It contains omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid which helps in reducing inflammation of the gut. It helps in rapid and more absorption of nutrients into the body.

WHAT IS REFINED OIL?
The oil which has been purified is called refined oil. But it is not the pure oil. The process of purification involves use of harmful chemicals such as nickel. It is treated with acid, alkali or is bleached. It is then neutralized, filtered or deodorized. These processes require a hydrocarbon called hexane. It has some of the harmful chemicals which are used as preservatives and there is presence of sodium hydroxide also. It leads to PUFA-poly unsaturated fatty acids which make the oil rancid and thus they require deodorization. When the oil is extracted from the seeds, it leads to formation of trans fats. There is so much smell that it needs to be deodorized.
WHAT ARE THE COMMONLY USED REFINED OILS IN MARKET?
Following are the refined oils which are commonly used:
- Vegetable oil
- Canola oil
- Soybean oil
- Safflower oil
- Margarine
- Corn oil
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF REFINED OILS
The consumption of refined oils can cause the following harmful effects:
Refined oils can cause digestive problems. During the process of formation of refined oils, there is addition of a toxic chemical called sodium hydroxide. This chemical highly affects the lining of the alimentary canal, thus causing a trouble in digestion and absorption. It causes tumors, cysts, gastroenteritis and ulcers. There is also increased amount of omega-6 fatty acids in it. Omega-6 fatty acids are very harmful for gut health. It is responsible for various fatal diseases like Irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, etc.
Refined oils are carcinogenic. Nickel is one of the most important chemical which is used in refining of oils. It has adverse effects on respiratory system, liver and skin. It increases the risk of breast cancer in women and other types of cancers also.
During the refining process, all the valuable nutrients get destroyed and there is increase in amount of trans fats. Trans fats increase the amount of bad cholesterol and triglycerides in blood. They decrease the amount of good cholesterol simultaneously. This leads to accumulation of plaque inside the walls of arteries and causes narrowing of arteries. This is responsible for various heart diseases like angina, ahteosclerosis, shortness of breath or heart attack. It the blockage occurs in the brain, it leads to stroke.
The refining process of oils involve bleaching, deodorizing, etc. All these processes are acidic or alkali treatments. They decrease the flavor, smell and chlorophyll content present in the oil. The rancidity of the oil increases. The alveoli of lungs get shrink due to presence of chemicals in the oil. There occurs difficulty in breathing and in some cases lung infection also.
CONCLUSION
Desi ghee is more beneficial than refined oils. It is pure and all the nutrients are conserved in it. However, as we have seen refined oils contain many harmful chemicals it is not good for body but causes various diseases like ulcers, allergies, diabetes and infertility, etc. So one should use desi ghee and avoid refined oils.

Why Womens have more Knee Pain as Comapred to Mens?
- September 13, 2022
- Posted by Dr. Vaidya Karanvir Singh
- 0 Comment(s)
- INTRODUCTION
The body structure of women is such that in addition to more movements of their joints, their ligaments are also more flexible, due to which they do more movement of the knees. Due to which the risk of pain increases more. The female hormone estrogen plays an important role in keeping the knees healthy. But the level of estrogen hormone decreases during periods and after menopause. Decreased estrogen levels affect the cushioned cartilage that supports the knee joint. - WHAT CAUSES JOINT PAIN?
Ayurvedic understanding suggests that ailments in the body are caused due to an imbalance in the optimal levels of the three doshas or tridoshas: the Vata dosha, pitta dosha, and Kapha dosha. Any such imbalance can block the flow of prana (the life force) and affect the circulation of nutrients in the body. For example, joint pain can have several causes. Common causes of joint pain include physical injury, general wear and tear of the joints, or an underlying disease. According to Ayurveda, joint pain results from imbalanced Vata Dosha in our bodies. The Vata Dosha handles all the movements within our mind and body. It is also in charge of maintaining blood flow, evacuation of bodily wastes, and breathing. An imbalance in the optimal levels of the Vata Dosha is due to the accumulation of Ama, an undigested metabolic toxin created due to lowered metabolism. The excessive presence of Ama in our joints results in joint pain and stiffness.
- BEING OVERWEIGHT
Women are more prone to obesity than men, due to which the knee gets worse due to pressure. Weight gain puts more pressure on the knees. The higher your weight, the more pressure will put on your knees. If your weight is 5 kg more than normal, then there is 25 kg more pressure on the knees. - IGNORING THE PAIN
Ignoring knee pain also increases the risk of knee pain. If there is constant pain in the knees, swelling is coming or there is a problem in bending them, then it should not be ignored. Ignoring it for a long time can damage the knee. According to the Osteoarthritis Research Society International, if knee pain persists for more than a year, it is usually caused by osteoarthritis. - INJURY
If there is an injury on the knees, then get it treated immediately, if not treated in time, then the risk of pain can increase in the future. Stretching or tearing of knee ligaments can also cause problems in knee. - EXCESSIVE EXERCISE
can also be harmful to the health of your knees. Exercising too much and running puts excessive pressure on the kneecaps and tendons, which increases the risk of damage to them. Women lose bone mass faster than men, this weakens their bones and increases the risk of joint damage. - INJURY OR ANY MEDICAL REASON
this can also be behind knee and joint pain. Such as hypersensitivity, stress or direct trauma to a joint, fractures that have not been repaired properly, tendonitis (swelling and irritation) associated with a joint, as well as any other disease that treatment is going on. - HAVING GOUT PROBLEMS
Due to the problem of arthritis, swelling starts appearing in your knees and joints. Due to this inflammation, there is a problem of pain, stiffness in your knees and joints, as well as swelling. When this problem gets worse, you also have trouble walking or moving. - LACK OF NUTRITION IN THE BODY
in today’s hectic life, we are unable to pay much attention to our food. Due to which our body lacks many essential nutrients. Lack of vitamin-C, vitamin D and calcium in the body is the main cause of pain in knees and joints. If this is not taken care of in time, this problem can increase significantly. - GREASE BETWEEN JOINTS
one of the reasons for pain in the knees and in the joints is also the loss of grease between the joints. The grease between the joints works to maintain the working capacity of the joints. But when this grease starts dissipating between the joints, then it causes problems like joint pain. - BODY WEIGHT GAIN
gaining body weight is also harmful for your knees and joints. When the weight of the body is more, then its entire weight falls on the feet. Due to the full weight of the body on the feet, there is a complaint of pain in the knees. In such a situation, if you are a victim of obesity, then your body weight can become an enemy of your knees and joints. - SUFFER FROM INFECTION
if you are suffering from problems like TB and bacterial infections, then it can be very harmful for the knee and joints. It can damage your knees. Due to which there can be a problem of unbearable pain, swelling and stiffness in your knees. This can also make it very difficult for you to walk.
