About the prostate:
Prostate is the part of male reproductive system is a small muscular gland. It surrounds the part of urethra which makes the fluid in the semen. The muscles in the prostate helps in propelling the semen through penis during intercourse.
Understanding BPH:
BPH is defined as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia which means enlargement of the prostate gland or non-cancerous growth of prostate. It occurs when the cells of the prostate multiply in numbers. Addition of these cells causes prostate gland to swell that squeezes the part of urethra passing through it. That ultimately limits the flow of urine. BPH is the benign that means it is non-spreadable as it does not increase the risk of cancer. But its symptoms can affect the quality of life. It is a very common among the men over 50 years. It is considered as normal condition of aging.
Ayurveda view point over BPH:
The condition of BPH in Ayurveda resembles “Ashtheela”. There are 13 types of “Mutraghata” (obstructive uropathies) described in ayurveda and Astheela is one of them. Astheela is elevated mobile swelling which obstruct the passage of urine. The vata dosha is vitiated in this condition. It generally happens when the food and activities that aggravates vata dosha with the conditions like dry, cold or light food, starvation, over exertion, suppression of urine leads to Astheela or paurusha granthi vridhi (prostate gland enlargement).
Another explanation for BPH in Ayurveda is that human body is made of 7 dhatus (body tissues). The 7th dhatu is Shukra dhatu which is related to the reproductive fluid of men. When there is over indulgence or over use of shukra dhatu (overindulgence in sexual activities) can lead to prostate issues.
What Causes BPH?
The exact cause of testosterone is not known, however it tend to occurs in older men. It is to be believed that Dihydrotestosterone (DTH), a hormone responsible for the development and growth of prostate gland. The drop in the level of testosterone in the older men, raises the accumulation of the DTH in the prostate. These excess of DTH promotes the growth of cells of the prostate. But it is just the theory.

BF.7 mainly causes upper respiratory infection giving symptoms like chest congestion, fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose along with some stomach related symptoms like nausea and vomiting.
Ayurveda view point over COVID-19:
Ayurveda has mentioned a condition similar to COVID-19 hundred years back with the name Janapadodhwamsa vikara (Epidemic disease). The main reason behind is vitiation of the four major elements such as air, water, land and seasons over the period of time. This vitiation leads to stimulation of diseases among large population destroying human habitations. Ayurveda science believes that as long as our Agni (Digestive fire) is strong, illness will not happen. This concept is directly related to our immunity (oja) which is formed by the biotransformation of dhatus (body tissues) with the help of Agni acting upon the food we eat. The end product or essence of all dhatus is ojas (immunity).
How Corona virus spreads:
- The virus travels through respiratory droplets released in the air with the sneeze, cough, breathes of an infected person.
- Also through contact (touching, shaking hands) with infected person or infected metallic objects.

Eating healthy nutritious food leads to formation of strong dhatus (body tissues) which results in strong immunity. Including Cow ghee into your diet leads to enhancing Agni (digestive power). Also ancient Ayurveda has mentioned various herbs that increase immunity such as Giloy, amla, tulsi, haridra, marich etc.
Simple Ayurvedic Procedures:
- Nasya therapy: Adding drops of cow ghee or medicated oil drops in both the nostrils, morning or evening. This increases the respiratory immunity of a person and hence helpful in preventing covid-19.
- Oil pulling Therapy: Swish 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or sesame oil into your mouth for a minute or two, spit it off and rinse mouth with warm water. This procedure in Ayurveda is known as Gandhoosh or Kawal . It is being said that it activates salivary enzymes that absorb bacterial, chemical or environmental toxins from the blood. It is helpful in detoxification of the body as a whole.
