Semecarpus anacardium was called the “marking nut” by Europeans because it was used by washermen to mark cloth and clothing before washing, as it imparted a water insoluble mark to the cloth.[citation needed]
It is a deciduous tree. Like the closely related cashew, the fruit is composed of two parts, a reddish-orange acessorsory fruit and a black drupe that grows at the end. The nut is about 25 millimetres long, ovoid and smooth lustrous black. The accessory fruit is edible and sweet when ripe, but the black fruit is toxic and produces a severe allergic reaction if it is consumed or its resin comes in contact with the skin. The seed inside the black fruit, known as godambi (गोडंबी), is edible when properly prepared.

What is dementia? Is it possible that a loved one is suffering from dementia, and you don’t know? What should you know about dementia to be vigilant? Or maybe someone in your family has dementia, and you don’t understand how to take care of it, because that person doesn’t understand you and is behaving strangely.
Dementia
Dementia is not the name of a particular disease, but the name of a large group of symptoms (syndrome). Some people call dementia “forgetting disease”, but dementia is not just another name for forgetting, it also has many other symptoms – difficulty remembering new things, unable to understand logic, hesitating to interact with people, Unable to do normal work, difficult to handle my emotions, personality changes, etc.
All these symptoms are caused by brain damage, and cause problems in every aspect of life. Also note that it is not necessary that a person with dementia has poor memory — some types of dementia may initially cause a change in character, difficulty in gait and balance, difficulty speaking, or other symptoms, but memory can be right.
Symptoms
The symptoms of dementia can be caused by many diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, vascular dementia (vascular dementia / vascular dementia), frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson’s, etc.
Some examples of symptoms:
Forgetting a recent incident
Missing the right words while talking
Not being able to understand the bank statement
Getting nervous while buying items in a crowd or in a shop
Not being able to understand the new mobile buttons
Important decisions Not being able to take
Not recognizing people and ordinary things, etc.
The behavior of patients often changes considerably. Many people with dementia tend to be more suspicious, and accuse those around them of stealing, killing, or starving. Some people start getting more excited, some other people stop meeting people and sit quietly all day. Some people also commit obscene acts.
Which symptoms will be seen in a person, it depends on which part of their brain is damaged. Some have some symptoms, some others. For example, forgetting is not as prominent in some patients as a change of character.
Most people in India consider all these symptoms as a natural part of aging, or think that it is due to stress or the person’s character has deteriorated, but this thinking is wrong. These symptoms can also be caused by dementia or any other disease, so it is advisable to consult a doctor. Sadly, stigma is also associated with many of these symptoms due to low knowledge of dementia in India. Therefore, people with dementia hide their problems thinking that they will be considered crazy or people will laugh whether they want to go to the doctor with a small talk! The family dismisses these symptoms as the result of old age. They do not think that getting advice can improve the situation. They do not even know that the person needs help. The changed behavior of the person is considered by the family members to be a hustle or character defect or insanity, and sometimes sad and disappointed, sometimes angry at the person.
Causes
Dementia is caused by damage to or loss of nerve cells and their connections in the brain. Depending on the area of the brain that’s affected by the damage, dementia can affect people differently and cause different symptoms.
Dementias are often grouped by what they have in common, such as the protein or proteins deposited in the brain or the part of the brain that’s affected. Some diseases look like dementias, such as those caused by a reaction to medications or vitamin deficiencies, and they might improve with treatment.

Varicose veins

Very few people will know about varicose veins. Before knowing about this, let us know what the function of the veins is. In the circulatory system, veins are the blood vessels that carry blood to the heart. Oxygenated blood flows (oxygen mixed) in some veins except pulmonary and umbilical vein. Most of the veins carry deoxygenated blood from the tissue (tissue) back to the lungs (depletion of oxygen). The structure and function of the veins are completely separate from the arteries, the veins carry blood from the tissues to the heart.
Varicose veins
Have you ever noticed the blue veins visible under our skin? Perhaps you never thought that these veins could be painful. Actually, the veins under the surface of our skin start growing increasing in size, these enlarged veins are called varicose veins. Any vein or vein may be varicose vein.
What is varicose veins?
Veins carry blood from tissues to the heart. Veins have to carry blood from the legs to the heart in contrast to gravity. There are valves within the veins to aid this upward flow. The valve only allows blood to move upward. When the valves become weak or are unable to close, the blood does not ascend upwards and sometimes flows downwards. In such a situation, the veins swell and become elongated as the length increases. This is called Varicose Veins.
Symptoms of Varicose Veins
When the veins start swelling due to lack of proper circulation of blood, there are other symptoms besides this symptom which are due to varicose veins-
Blue or deep purple veins
Feeling heaviness in feet.
Muscular cramps
Lower leg swelling
Swollen or twisted veins that look like ropes
Pain after sitting or standing for a long time
itching around one or more veins
Causes of Varicose Veins
As discussed earlier, the veins carry blood from the tissues to the heart and when the blood is unable to move upwards, the veins begin to swell. Accurate diagnosis is very important for effective treatment. According to Ayurveda, the imbalance of Vata (air and space) plays an important role in the formation of varicose veins. The role of blood and bile (heat) also cannot be ignored. Thus, treatment becomes an important part of maintaining the balance of Vata.
Apart from these, there are many reasons for having varicose veins, such as-
Increasing age – The risk of varicose veins may increase significantly with aging as the flexibility of the veins may decrease with increasing age, which can increase the stretch. In addition, due to worsening of the valve of the veins, the blood going towards the heart may flow in the opposite direction, causing blood to accumulate in the veins and become varicose vein.
Chances are more likely in women– Women are more likely to have varicose vein. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and periods increase the risk of varicose vein. Hormone replacement therapy and birth control pills may also increase this risk.
Obesity – Increased weight can put more pressure on the nerves, which can increase the chances of getting varicose veins.
Family History – If a family member has a problem with varicose veins, then the risk of varicose veins increases in other members as well.
Standing or sitting in the same position for a long time – If sitting or standing in the same position continuously, stretch in the veins may increase and varicose veins may be the problem due to not having the blood flow properly. There is also a possibility of having eczema or wound in the skin due to having varicose veins.
Prevention Tips for Varicose Veins
In order to avoid varicose veins or to make the condition better when it occurs, it is necessary to make some changes in lifestyle and diet, as well as some things to be avoided. Although it is a disease in which more precautions are needed than treatment, yet if symptoms do occur at any time, then do something like this-

Exercise to keep various muscles of feet flexible and healthy.
Do not wear too many heels or high-heeled slippers and shoes.
Diet-
Vitamin-A substances such as carrots, turnips, etc., because they are helpful in healing wounds caused by varicose veins.

As the modern science sates that there is no cure for autoimmune diseases and can only control them by suppressing the over active immune response. Ayurvedic Treatments for Autoimmune Diseases are aimed to correct the immune system through various process.
Various factors are responsible for the development of autoimmunity. Here are few reasons that are responsible for autoimmunity.
Aggravations of All the doshas can occur when a person consumes food during indigestion, not following the deistic rules, intake of incompatible food and drinks, eating when the previous food is not digested or with out feeling hungry, wrong combination of foods, can cause increases in the aggravation of all the dosha’s
Impairment of the biological fire (agni) – When the deistic rules of ayurveda is ignored repeatedly it will lead to the impairment of the digestive fire. The optimal level of digestive fire is required to maintain the normalcy of the body. When the digestive becomes impaired it hampers the process of digestion and nourishment to the tissues. The weak digestive fire leads to the improper digestion of the food and causes a toxic metabolite called ama. This is form of toxin which can not be digested accumulates in the body and leads to the formation of autoimmunity.
Unwholesome habits and activities can lead to the formation of the toxic materials. Depending on the severity of the toxins can directly impact the tissues causing the process of the autoimmunity or the toxins can aggravate the dosha’s which intern disturbs the tissues and immunity causing the process of autoimmunity.
Treatment principle followed in treating autoimmune diseases
- Correction in the diet: Our health depends on what we eat. The consumption of unwholesome food, having food with out considering the appetite, having food in improper time etc…. will hamper the digestive digestive fire. The weak digestive fire worsen the digestive process leading to the production of toxic metabolites which is known as ‘ama’. The ama which circulates all over the body starts impacting the functions of immune system. So the first step in treating an autoimmune disease starts with the correcting the diet itself.
- Lifesstyle changes: Sedentarily lifestyle, lack of physical activities also reduces immunity through various modes like reducing metabolism, digestive power. Physical activities like exercise are also known as karmaja bala. The reduction in karmaja bala also decreases the immune system.
- Psychological changes: Being in happier state also enhances the immunity by releasing certain hormones. Latest researches also states that persons who are happy can fight better against the diseases compared to others.
- Medication: There are certain ayurvedic medications which can help to boost the immunity. But one thing that you need to keep in mind is it will work only other parameters are followed like right diet, lifestyle modification, purification etc..
- Purification of the body: Purification of the body through certain therapies like panchakarma will also help to eliminate the factors that are responsible for reducing the immunity. Removal of the aggravated doshas, accumulation of toxins will help the body to function effectively to enhance the immunity.
- Rasayana Treatment: Rasayana therapy is the one which helps to nourish all the tissues to work optimally. They are administered only when the body is purified. Rasayana treatment also works as protective shield to prevent the reoccurrence of the diseases again and again,
Who will have strong immunity?
Immunity depends on the equilibrium of the doshas, healthy status of the tissues and proper formation and expulsion of waste from the body. In same way a healthy status of the body is also maintained by the stars of immunity. There are various factors that are responsible for having good immune system are
- Balavat pursue deshe janma – The birth of a person in the place where the people have strong immune system.

Headache is one among the most common reasons patients seek medical attention, on a global basis
being responsible for more disability than any other neurological problem. Migraine is the 2nd most common primary headache, also known as ‘Hemi crania’ , means ‘half of the head’ It affects 15% of women and 6% of men over a period of 1 year. A migraine is usually a moderate or severe headache, with a heaviness in the half of the head.
Apart from this, most people see headache as well as other symptoms like vomiting, dizziness, difficulty in seeing, etc.
It is an episodic headache that is associated with certain features such as sensitivity to light, sound or movement. Nausea and vomiting often accompany the headache. Due to this, the helpless pain in the head lasted from a few hours to a few days. This problem may start in childhood or it may not be known until adulthood.
It is benign and recurring syndrome of headache associated with other symptoms of neurologic dysfunction in varying admixtures. Migraine can often be recognized by its activators, referred to as triggers. In Ayurveda it can be correlated to Ardhavabhedaka. Allopathic treatment shows very limited role in treatment of this disease. However Ayurvedic treatments, especially Panchakarma offers significant relief treatment of this disease.
Migraine sufferers can benefit from Ayurvedic treatments. Ayurveda treats the disease at its root cause from within. Panchakarma, in Ayurveda plays a unique role in the management of the disease. All the Panchakarma procedures are indicated for migraine however Nasya Karma plays a vital role in disintegrating the pathology of the disease.
The vitiated doshas alleviated by Upvasadi langhana and digestive drugs do at a time get aggravated but those eliminated by Panchakarma do not recure. So Panchakarma leads to complete cure according to type of prognosis i.e. Sadhya, Krichasadhya, Yapya, Anupkrama etc.
The doshas can be well compared with trees. Unless the tree is uprooted from its root, it will grow (in spite of branches. Such is the case with vitiated doshas. They go on causing diseases unless they are eliminated from their root.
What are the Causes of Migraine?
There are several migraine triggers, including:
- Weather changes
- Sleep changes
- Stress
- Carbonated Drinks
- Hormonal changes in women
- High intake of alcohol, coffee, etc
- Certain medications
- Family history
- Depression
What type of migraine is there?
Migraines are of many types, some of which are as follows-
Visual Migraine – This type of migraine is also known as Classical Migraine. This migraine is found in about 25 percent of people. In the case of classic migraine, people have eye problems such as black spot in the light, glare in the light, etc.
Visible loss Migraine – It is estimated that about 11 percent of people worldwide suffer from this and if they suffer a severe headache, then some people suffer from vomiting, mood swings etc.
Menstrual Migraine – As the name suggests, this migraine occurs only to women. This migraine occurs in about 60 percent of women, mainly on the date of the onset of menstruation.
Chronic Migraine – Another name for this migraine is also mixed headaches as it involves the tissues of migraine and stressful headaches.
Panchakarma in Migraine Headache
Snehana Karma
• Use of Uttam Matra of Chatuh Sneha
• Jeerna ghrita paana
• Shiro Abhayanga with Dashmoola Taila, Kanaka Taila, Rudra Taila etc.
Snehapana
Sneha acts as a solvent to remove the obstruction by dissolving Doshasin it, resulting in the removal of Srotorodha. After proper Snehanaall cells of the body becomes completely saturated with fats. the fat material comes out to extra-cellular fluid by osmosis process. Due to the aqueous properties of Sneha and liquefied Mala brought from the tissues, the levels of fatty acids etc. increases in the blood resulting in the high plasma volume. To keep up the equilibrium of the normal plasma level, the extra amount of liquidreaches to the Koshta for excretion. Later on, this increased amount of the body fluids are evacuated through other therapies, like Vamana, Virechana.
Svedana Karma
• Nadi Sveda
• Upnaha Sveda (Specially Jangala Mamsa Upanaha)
• Pariseka ( Specially Aushadha siddha ksheeradhara)
Under Murdhani Taila Shirobasti is specially treatment of choice in all shiroroga, Acharya Charaka & Sushruta indicated Shirobasti in Ardhavabhedaka
Shiroabhyanga
During Shiroabhayanga different type of mechanical sensation is given to the skin like pressure, rubbing, touches. These impulses are received by respective receptors present on the skin surface and carried to the hypothalamus and provides soothing effect and also stimulates para sympathetic nervous system, thus decreases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenalin and dilates blood vessels. All these factors provide relaxation to the mind and relieves pain.
Shirolepa
• Acharya Sushruta indicated Shiro lepa Some of the indicated Shirolepa are:
• Sarivadi Shirolepa
• Vayavidangadi Lepa
• Tiladi Lepam
Shirobasti
It is a Snigdha Swedayukta procedure. It has dual benefits of both Snehana and Svedana. The temperature of the Taila in Shirobasti leads to peripheral vasodilation. This increases the peripheral circulation which nourishes the tissues, hastens phagocytosis and brings about regenerative changes. Thus Shirobasti is a very complex process certainly influencing the Shareerika and Manasika Dosha.
Nasya Karma
In Nasya Karma the medicine is put into nostril, moves in the channels upto the Shringataka and spreads to whole of the interior of the head and tothe junction place where all the channels related to eyes, ears and throat situated together, thus shows influence on Shiras by removing out the accumulated Doshas localized in Shiras i.e. from all sinuses in the skull, the action known as Shirovirechana. The olfactory nerves entering olfactory mucosa of nose carry the sheaths dura, arachnoids and pia with them. They directly enter into the brain. Olfactory straie are extensively connected to the limbic system stimulation can nourishment of nerve ending throughNasya alters the pathology of migraine.
Nasya Karma plays a significant role in the management of Migraine
• Acharya Charaka mentioned Shirovirechana Nasya
• Acharya Sushruta mentioned Nasya
Basti Karma
In Ardhavabhedaka, Niruha Basti prepared with Vatanashaka drugs should be given first, followed by Anuvasana Basti prepared of Ghrita, Taila etc. Basti is being considered as the one of the best therapeutic procedures for the management of migraine. The rectum with its vascularity and venous plexuses provides a good absorbing surface and many soluble substances produce their effect more quickly by entering into systemic circulation. Due to Achintya Prabhavaof Basti, it might have reduced swelling of temporal artery and there by the patient gets relief from symptoms.
Vamana Karma
The active principle of VamanaDravya taken orally is absorbed from the stomach into circulatory system, where from it is circulated to all over body. On reaching at the site of Dosha Sanghata, which is at the cellular level, it breaks the nexus of Dosha and brings back the toxic substances thus released into the stomach, where from they are expelled out of the body by the action of vomiting.
Acharya Charaka indicated Vamana Karma , even Sadyo Vamana can be planned if doshas are in Utkleshavastha. Practically it shows significant affect in the reducing the frequency of Migraine attacks
Virechana Karma
Virechana Dravya produced mild irritation in stomach and intestinal mucosa respectively, to cause inflammation, which facilitates quick absorption of the active principal of the drug in initial stage. Later on it facilitate the excretion of the morbid matters, which generally are not supposed to be excreted out through the mucosa of gut. It is possible only because of inflammation increases the permeability of the capillaries, which in turn allow the absorption, as well as excretion of such substances.
• Acharya Charaka9 and Yogratanakara10 indicated Virechana Karma
• Depending upon the condition, Lakshanas and Doshas, Vamana Karma followed by Virechana Karma can be planned
Agni-Karma
Provides significant relief in the symptoms of migraine. Acharya Charaka indicated Dahana Karma. It is indicated on Lalata and Shankha Pradesha at two Angula area. As per Ayurveda, ‘pain cannot occur without involvement of Vata Dosha’. Agni has Ushna Guna, this Ushna Guna gets transferred to Twak(skin), and normalises Vata and Kapha, helped to reduce Shirashoola in Ardhavabhedaka.
Raktamokshana
The vitiated blood can be detoxified by Raktamokshana (bloodletting). Removal of toxins balances the Doshas. It can remove Avarana of Kaphaor PittaDoshagiving way for Anulomana indirectly cures the Vatika symptoms along with Pitta and KaphaDosha and patient gets immediate relief in pain. In acute migraine attack, Raktamokshanafrom the jugular vein is beneficial.
Shirodhara
Involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead. The liquids used in Shirodhara can include oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water or even plain water. Its work by relaxing the hypothalamus in the brain, also normalize the functions of hormones that regulate sleep and emotions. The soothing of Marma`s and in turn soothing of Nervous system and endocrine glands as an effect of Shirodhara treatment procedure will definitely relax Prana Vayu, Sadhaka Pitta and Tarpaka Kapha in the brain
Dhoopana
It dilates blood vessels and helps in oxidation of blood. It leads to adequate tissue perfusion and oxygenation. Thus, reduces inflammation, pain, itching and eliminates infection
Agnikarma
• Acharaya Charaka indicated Dahana Karma
• The Agnikarma is indicated on Lalata and Shankha Pradesha at two angula area
• Agnikarma is indicated for mainly shleshma pradhanata, however if rakta and pitta are aggravated more then agnikarma should not be done.
