DESCRIPTION
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic, progressive autoimmune disease that causes inflammation (swelling) and pain in the joints, around the joints and joint deformity. The RA has been described as Amavata in Ayurveda, where the vitiated Vata and Ama affect the lining of the joints, causing Shula (pain) & Shotha (swelling) in the affected area. Ama is a maldigested product, which is not good for the body. This Ama gets localized in the body tissue or joints, and lead to pain, stiffness, swelling, tenderness, etc. In Ayurveda, Nidana Parivarjana (avoid the causative factors) is considered as the first line of management for any disease. Virechan is a Shodhana process (which eliminate vitiated dosha and toxins from the body) to balance Dosha in the body mainly Pitta Dosha. Hence, this included both the treatment that is Nidana Parivarjana and Virechanakarma to manage Amavata.
Nidana of Amavata
According to Madhava Nidana the specific etiological of amavata include

- Mandagni
- Nishchalata
- After exertion immediately taking Snigdha Ahara are the main factor responsible for the production of Amavata.

Do’s:
The important Pathya Ahara (dietetics) includes-
- Dhanya (cereals): Purana/Shasti Shali (rice), and Yava (Barley).
- Pulses: Kulattha (horse gram), Kalaya (Pisum sativum), Kodrava (Paspalum scrobiculatum)
- Shaka (vegetables): Shigru (drum stick), Ardraka (ginger), lashuna (garlic), Karavellaka (bitter guard), Patola (pointed guard), Mulaka (radish)
- Liquids: Boiled water, Panchakola Siddha Jala.
- Cow products: Takra (buttermilk) and cow’s urine.

Amavata management includes Shamana chikitsa (conservative treatment) and Shodhana chikitsa (detoxifying treatment).
SHAMAN CHIKITSA
Depending upon the stages acute or chronic and Doshas, many measures are advised such as

- In raktpitta (numerous bleeding disorders that occur due to excessive intake of spicy, fermented, hot, acidic, and sour food), juice of pointed gourd leaves should be taken in a dose of 8-10 ml with honey or water.
- The juice of leaves works as a tonic. Consumption of this juice removes the blood impurities and toxins, thus helps in the management of skin diseases.
- Juice of leaves acts as antipyretic, helpful in edema, alopecia, and cases of enlargement of the liver. Leaves and fruits are used for treating alcoholism and jaundice according to charak Samhita.

- The edible part of fresh Parwal contains approximately- water-92%, protein- around 2%, fat – around 0.3%, fiber- 3%, carbohydrate -2.2%, minerals- 0.5%, vitamin C- around 29mg/100g, carotene -around 153 mcg/100g, sodium-2.6mg/100g, Magnesium -9mg/100g, sulphur – 16mg/100g ,potassium -83mg/100g, copper -1.1mg/100g.
- The ripe fruit is sour and sweet. Act as Tonic, aphrodisiac, expectorant and removes toxins from the body and purifies the blood.
Other uses
To manage hyperacidity, take leaves of pointed-gourd, turmeric powder, and fruit rind in equal parts and make the powder. 3 to 6 gm. of dose should be taken with the fresh juice of ginger and 3 ml of papaya latex twice a day.
- In some alternative medicine the fresh juice of the unripe fruit is generally used as a coolant and laxative medicine.
- In spermatorrhoea the fruit is used as a remedy.
- In primary biliary cholangitis, a decoction/kwath of pointed gourd leaves and coriander leaves in equal parts is given. When pointed gourd is given with other herbs can be prescribed in snakebite and scorpion sting.

In the Indian culture, every devotee who believes in Hindu religion worships his Ishta in one form or another and tries to fulfill his wishes by chanting the Ishta Mantra. But some rules of chanting mantras of Gods and Goddesses have also been mentioned in the scriptures, how to chant the mantra while chanting the mantra, in which tone the chanting of mantras should be done so that the benefit of chanting the mantra is very important. . At the time of chanting the mantra, the scriptures have divided the mantra chanting into three classes on the basis of the movement of lips, breathing and emission of voice.
1- Recitation
Just as the hymns of God – Kirtan and Aarti are performed in a high tone, chanting of mantras in high tones has been considered prohibited. The scriptures say that while chanting the mantra, the swara bhahar should not come out. When chanting mantras are chanted in such a loud tone that the sound is falling in the ears of the chanting seeker, it is called recitation.
2- Upanshu Chanting
In this method of chanting the mantra, the sound of the mantra does not come out of the mouth, but the tongue and lips of the seeker should be moving while chanting, on seeing another person in Upanshu chanting, the seeker seems to be moving the lips, but any word He cannot hear it.
3- Mantra Chanting
According to the scripture, in this method of chanting the mantra, the lips and tongue of the chanter do not move, only the mind of the seeker chants the mantra, at this stage the chanter cannot be told that he is chanting any mantra.
In all these chants in the Shastras, Manas chanting is said to be the best chanting and Upanshu chanting is said to be the middle chanting and the first step of recitation of Manas chanting. Mantra chanting and mental worship are those mental processes performed in solitude devoid of obsolescence and performance, in which it is very important to have emotion and devotion to the deity.

DESCRIPTION
Gout is a very common and complex form of arthritis that can affect any person. It cause sudden and severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness, and tenderness in one or more joints, mostly occurs in the big toe. In Ayurveda, it is called Vatarakta that involving Vata dosha and their imbalance that affecting Rakta Dhatu – blood tissue.
CAUSES
- Gout occurs when urate crystals present in the body and accumulate in your joint, causing inflammation and intense pain.
- Urate crystals form in the body when there are high levels of uric acid in blood and body produces uric acid when it split down into purines. Purines are substances that are found naturally in your body.
- Purines also found in certain foods, including red meat and organ meats, such as the liver. Alcoholic beverages, especially beer, and drinks sweetened with fruit sugar (fructose) promote higher levels of uric acid in the body.
- Uric acid normally dissolves in blood and passes into kidneys and urine, but sometimes too much uric acid produced by the body, and kidneys not capable to excrete too much uric acid through urine.
- In this condition, uric acid can build up in the body and form sharp, needle-like urate crystals in a joint or the surrounding tissue that causes pain, inflammation, and swelling.
CAUSES ACCORDING AYURVEDA

RISK FACTOR
- Diet – Eating a diet rich in red meat and shellfish and drinking beverages sweetened with fruit sugar increase levels of uric acid, which increases your risk of gout. Alcohol consumption especially beer increases the risk of gout.
- Weight – If you are overweight, your body produces more uric acid and kidneys face more difficulty in eliminating uric acid from the body.
- Medical conditions – These include untreated high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, heart and kidney disease, and metabolic syndrome,
- Certain medications – Low-dose aspirin, medications used to control hypertension such as thiazide diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and beta-blockers also increase uric acid levels in the body.
- Family history of gout – If other members of your family had gout, you are more prone to develop the disease.
- Age and sex – Gout occur more often occur in men as compared to women’s because women tend to have lower uric acid levels in the body. In men, gout develops between the age of 30 and 50, and in women generally, it develops after menopause.
AYURVEDIC APPROACH (PATHOGENESIS OF VATARAKT)
- When a person takes excessive foods and exposes to lifestyle activities that aggravate Vata and also used to long-distance rides on animals like camels, elephants, horses, the Vata gets severely aggravated by its own causes.
- On other hand, Rakta and blood get vitiated Rakta quickly blocks the passage of Vayu and interferes with its smooth movements.
- The Vata whose passage is blocked by Rakta further undergoes vitiation and further contaminates the Rakta or blood.
- The blood which is vitiated by Vayu later burns the whole blood present in the body. The blood which is contaminated by vitiated Vayu leaves its place and moves towards feet.
- This vicious amalgamation causes serious painful symptoms comprising of a disease called Vatarakta. Later the pitta and Kapha join this amalgamation and making the disease more complicated.
- The disease first manifested small joints of the foot. Later it spreads to the upper portions of the body causing itching, pain, and numbness.
- In association with Kapha, this Vatarakta spreads all through the body in quick time like poison.
TYPES OF VATARAKTA
- Vata pradhana vatarakta – when Vata is severely vitiated in Vatarakta symptoms like pain, twitching, pricking pain, swelling which is dry and black, stiffness of body parts, aversion or aggravation of symptoms by cold, numbness, etc.
- Rakta Pradhan vatarakta – When Rakta is severely vitiated in Vatarakta, the symptoms like swelling, severe pain and pricking pain, the copper color of the skin, itching, and moistness predominate.
- Pitta Pradhana Vatarakta – When pitta is severely vitiated by Vatarakta, the symptoms appear like severe burning sensation, fainting, sweating, tenderness, pain, swelling, and suppuration will be predominantly found.
- Kapha Pradhan Vatarakta – when Kapha vitiated in Vatarakta, the symptoms appear like numbness, moistness, heaviness, unctuousness, and coldness will prevail.
Vatarakta is also two types based on its location
- Uttana Vatarakta – This afflicts the skin and muscles, and the symptoms are also limited to the skin. In this type, the symptoms look like skin disease or including skin lesions and muscle pain.
- Gambhira Vatarakta – This involves blood and other deeper tissues like bone and joints and also internal viscera. This is a systemic illness and the symptoms are more complicated.

Newborn jaundice is a yellowish color of baby skin and eyes. It is very common in neonatal and can occur when babies have a high level of bilirubin level, a yellow pigment produced during normal breakdown of red blood cells in body. In older babies and adults, the liver processes bilirubin, which then passes through the intestinal tract. However, in newborn’s the liver still-developing and may not be mature to remove bilirubin in the body. In most cases, newborn jaundice goes away on its own as a baby’s liver develops, and which helps bilirubin pass through the body. In most cases, jaundice will disappear within two to three weeks. Jaundice that stay longer than three weeks may be a symptom of an underlying condition. High levels of bilirubin can put a baby at risk for deafness, cerebral palsy, and other forms of brain damage.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF JAUNDICE
- Bilirubin mainly originates from heme via the catalyzation of heme oxygenase (HO) and biliverdin reductase and is conjugated into direct form by UDP-glucuronosyl transferase (UGT1A1) for subsequent biliary secretion.
- Jaundice occurs when conjugated or unconjugated bilirubin deposits onto the skin and it is very common during the neonatal period. Neonatal jaundice is related to physiologic and pathologic conditions.
- Physiologic aspects are comprised of increased bilirubin production, less efficient hepatic conjugation and enhanced enter hepatic circulation. In pathologic condition, there are two patterns of diseases that is hyperbilirubinemia and cholestasis.
- In hyerbilirubinemia there is accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin beyond the extent of physiologic jaundice, while cholestasis results from the excretory obstruction of conjugated bilirubin. Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia carries a potential risk of kernicterus, a long-term neurological impairment.
- Proper management is important to avoid the complications. The phototherapy and exchange transfusion is the management of neonatal jaundice.
AYURVEDIC APPROACH
- Nidana –
- According to Acarya Caraka, consumption of Pitadusta stanya (breast milk which is vitiated by pita) is the cause of yellowish discoloration of the skin which is explained under Ashtaksheera dosas. He also said that Pandu rogi consuming excessive Pittala Ahara is the root cause of Kamala.
- According to Acarya Susruta, Kamala is considered as a synonym of Panduroga due to Aparityaga (not treated) of Panduroga.
- Acarya Vagbhata said that, kamala is caused by Atyartha pittala ahara sevana by a Pandu rogi or by a pitala person it leads to Kamala.
- Madava Nidana, Yogaratnakara and Bhava prakasha also said that Pitadusta stanya is the cause of Kamala.
- Purva rupa –
- Separate Purvarupas of Kamala has not been mentioned by acharyas. According to Acharya Caraka, Kamala represents a state of Pandu roga with different symptoms whereas Acharya Susrutha do not explain about Purvarupas kamala.
- Rupa –
- Charaka samhitha describes the Lakshanas as yellowish discoloration of eye, nail and urine.
- Samprapti –
Raktavaha srotas dushti > Vridi and sancaya of Mala roopa pitta > Sthana samshraya in Twak, Rakta and Mamsa > Navajata shishu kamala
SIGN AND SYMPTOMS OF JAUNDICE
- Yellow discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes and sclera
- Poor feeding
- Lethargy or excessive sleepiness
- Changes in muscle tone
- High-pitched crying
- Seizures
- Yellow color inside the mouth
- Dark or brown-colored urine
- Pale or clay-colored stools
TREATMENT IN AYURVEDA
- LIVER CARE SYRUP – Liver Care syrup helps in balancing Pitta dosha. This Syrup enhances regeneration of liver cells, promote functions of liver, and improve blood flow from the liver. It helps in the treatment of fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, Hepatitis, hepatomegaly, and obstructive Jaundice. Probably not to anyone…. I also do not like it at all. But due to these stretch marks, stomach is starting to look strange. After delivery, there were stretch marks on stomach, which look so bad that one not able to wear a sari And thinking about the stretch marks, one keep getting upset.
Stretch marks are often considered to be the markings on the stomach and thighs of women during pregnancy, but stretch marks caused by stretch and tightness in the skin due to obesity are also marks. Stretch marks can happen to anyone. Whenever someone is fat, a sudden change in the body and a stretch in the skin causes many scars on the skin, which are called stretch marks.
These Ayurvedic tips will remove Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are usually on the armpits, abdomen, breast, Thai, and hips, because this part of the body fat is the most. There are many treatments such as surgery to avoid stretch marks from them. No matter how safe these techniques are, there is always the possibility of some dangers. Their being very expensive is also a big problem. Regular exercise

Aloe vera skin softener
“Stretch marks can be cured with aloe vera. Aloe vera has natural healing properties and is also a very good skin softener. Both these things make Aloe Vera a good home Remedy to remove Stretch marks. Apply aloe vera gel on your stretch marks before taking a bath. ”
Apple vinegar
Apple vinegar is used in many homes. This doubles the taste of food. Apple vinegar has many properties that are very beneficial for the test as well as the health! Try apple cider vinegar. There will be a difference in a few days. To remove the scar, dissolve apple vinegar in water and apply it on the scar for 20 minutes. Wipe with lukewarm water.

Sugar
You will be surprised how you can remove stretch marks from sugar, but natural white sugar can be the best way to remove these marks. Sugar removes the old layer of skin only when new layer comes in which is soft.
Add a few drops of almond oil and lemon juice to a spoonful of sugar and apply it on the marks. Every day, before bathing, give a light massage for 10 minutes.
Potatoes
Potatoes contain vitamins and minerals that help the skin cells to grow. Cut the potato into thick pieces and rub it lightly on the marks and leave it for a while.
Keep in mind that the juice coming out of the potato must be applied to the marks you are trying to remove. Then when it dries, wash it with lukewarm water. By doing this every day, you will see the difference on your skin.
Olive oil
Olive oil contains many ingredients and antioxidants that help in improving the skin and also removes stretch marks. Heat olive oil and apply it on the marks, which will improve blood flow. Apply oil and leave it for one hour so that the vitamins A, D and E present in it soak the skin.
To maintain moisture in your skin at night, add vinegar and water in olive oil and apply it on the marks before bedtime. This will keep your skin soft.
Water
You may not have thought that water can be so effective for removing stretch marks. By keeping the right amount of water in the body, many skin related diseases are cured. This keeps your skin’s pores clean from time to time and this keeps your skin resilient.
To do this, drink at least 10 glasses of water a day. This will keep your skin soft and flexible. It is better to stay away from coffee, tea and soda because these things reduce the amount of water in the body.
By adopting these measures, you can get rid of the stretch marks.
