ATOPIC DERMATITIS AND ITS AYURVEDIC TREATMENT

It is a chronic relapsing inflammatory disorder of skin which causes itchy rashes and discoloration. It may come and go or may only be in childhood or can affect individual for entire life.
It is most common in children, but can occur at any age. Atopic dermatitis can be irritating but it’s not contagious.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF ATOPIC DERMATITIS ?
Main cause of dermatitis is not known but some of the factors are :
- Gene variation affecting skin’s ability to provide protection.
- Due to disturbance in immune system
- Too much of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on skin can caused Atopic dermatitis.
- Due to temperature or any other natural conditions
WHAT ARE THE TRIGGERS FOR ATOPIC DERMATITIS ?
Common triggers for atopic dermatitis that makes it worse includes :
- Skin infections
- Stress
- Rough wool fabric
- Mold
- Pollen
- Cold and dry air
- Smoke from tobacco
- Dry skin
- Cleaning products
- Fragrances
- Long or hot baths/ shower
- Animal dander
- Certain hormones
- Certain foods
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ATOPIC DERMATITIS ?
Symptoms of Atopic Dermatitis varies from person to person . Some common symptoms include :
- Itchiness
- Red, brown, purple or gray rashes
- Dry skin
- Swelling and inflammation
- Cracked skin
- Oozing and crusting
- Darkening of skin around eyes
- Thickened skin
WHAT ARE THE COMPLICATIONS ?
It is sometimes linked to other health issues, like :
- Neuro-dermatitis
- Asthma
- Other Skin infections
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Hay fever
- Food allergies
- Mental Health problems
PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR ATOPIC DERMATITIS FLARE-UP ?
Some common tips to reduce flare-up of Atopic Dermatitis are :
- Taking daily bath with warm water rather than hot and also limiting the time to about 10 minutes
- Using thick and unscented moisturizer like creams , ointments , lotions etc to seal in the moisture.
- Using gentle free of dyes, fragrance and alcohol non-soap cleansers
- Pat drying skin after bath with soft towel to avoid scrubbing skin.
- Avoid known triggers .
AYURVEDIC APPROACH :
In ayurveda it can be correlated with Vicharchika which comes under Kshudra-kushtroga . Nidan sevan like intake of unwholesome food, excessive oleation, intake of polluted water, performing excessive physical activities etc leads to vitiation of three doshas Vata, pitta and Kapha that in turn contaminates Twak(skin), Rakta(blood), Mamsa(Flesh) and Ambu( Body fluids) which leads to formation of Vicharchika.

CHANDIGARH AYURVEDIC CENTER MEDICATION FOR THE TREATMENT OF ATOPIC DERMATITIS :
1. Detox Premium Powder:
This is a herbo-mineral preparation that contains ingredients like Parwal Pishti, Giloy satv, Shukta Pishti, Kamdudha Ras, Gandhak Rasayan, etc.
Parwal Pishti: This Pishti reduces inflammation, flaking, itching of the skin. The Pishti is composed of natural coral calcium processed with rose water.

2. Blood Purifier Syrup :
It is ayurvedic syrup that consists of various natural ingredients such as Khadir Chall (Acacia catechu), Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), Harad (Terminalia bellirica), Baheda (Terminalia chebula), Amla (Emblica officinalis), etc. As the syrup purifies the blood by removing excess toxins it is very beneficial in maintaining proper circulation and improves the skin naturally.
Recommended Dosage – Take 2 teaspoonful twice daily.
3. Panchatikta Ghrita Guggulu:
The tablets are very beneficial in curing skin diseases as it contains the Pitta pacifying ingredients such as Shuddh guggulu (Commiphora mukul), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Amrita (Tinospora cordifolia), Gajapippali (Piper chaba), Shunthi (Zingiber officinalis), etc. The tablet is Tridoshahara, thus is very effective in maintaining the hormonal level in the body.

4. Skin Care tablet:
Skin care tablet is herbo mineral and purely ayurvedic formulation. It contains various herbs like Haridra khand, Panchnimba churna, Panchatikta guggulu, Patol patra, Ajmoda, Khadir chhal, Chirayta, Mulethi, Manjistha, Chopchini, Gandhak, etc. Skin care tablet is a blood purifying. It cools and detoxifies the blood, dissolves obstructions in the blood flow that further increase blood circulation of the skin. 5. Twak Churna:
Twak churna is a composition of two main ingredients – Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) that are considered as the best herbs for skin. The churna has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiandrogenic abilities that treat acne and also prevent it from re-occurrence. The herb Manjistha acts against bacteria such as Propionibacterium acne and Staphylococcus epidermidis which play a role in the development of pimples.
Recommended Dosage – Take 1 teaspoonful twice daily with normal water.
