Individual not feeling hungry or does not have desire to eat food is said to be Loss of Appetite or decreased appetite. The individual with low appetite may feel full, not like sight, taste or smell of food. There are various conditions which can contribute to loss of appetite including both mental and physical illnesses.
It is a sign of concern if this last for a longer than week period. It may come with other symptoms like nausea, muscle weakness , constipation, fatigue, diarrhea etc.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF APPETITE DECREASE?
Some come symptoms that indicate low appetite includes :
- Missing meals
- Having no to little interest in food.
- Change in weight
- Not consuming even one’s favorite foods
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF APPETITE DECREASE ?
There are various causes of loss of appetite which includes Physical changes , mental or emotional changes , underlying health issues , side-effects of medications
Physical causes of Appetite Decrease :
- Dehydration
- Injury
- Pain
- Recovering from surgery
- Tooth pain or dental issues
- Loss or reduction of smell or taste
Psychological and Emotional Causes for Appetite Decrease :
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Eating Disorder
- Stress
- Emotional reaction like fear, grief, shock or sadness
Underlying health conditions causing Appetite decrease :
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Infection
- Food poisoning
- HIV and AIDS
- Dementia
- Common cold
- Hypothyroidism
- Liver, kidney , lung or heart disease
Medication causing Appetite decrease :
- Digoxin
- Anti-biotics
- Opioids
- Chemotherapy
- Fluoxetine
AT HOME MEASURES TO TREAT APPETITE DECREASE :
Individual can increase his or her appetite at home by :
- Consuming liquid meals : Consume daily amount of calories in form of liquid meal if one is not feeling well to consume food as it will be easier to keep down. Consume meals like fruit juices, soup broths or sports drinking with electrolytes.
- Eating Regular meals : Try to consume small meals for breakfast , lunch and dinner if you are not feeling hungry.
- Choose foods with high protein, minerals and vitamins: Try to include food that are high in proteins , minerals and vitamins to recover the levels of nutrients low in body.
- Schedule meals with friends or family : Develop a support system of family or friends who can encourage you to eat food full of nutrients needed for body.
AYURVED APPROACH :
In Ayurved it can be correlated with Aruchi. Due to excessive consumption of heavy , oily food, psychological causes like fear, grief, dissatisfaction, stress , food poisoning, long persisting etc. leads to the vitiation of vata, pitta and kapha dosha. The vitiation of tridoshas leads to decrease in digestive fire . The decreased digestive fire cause formation of Ama in the body. Ama along with Bodhak kapha leads to obstruction of gastro-intestinal channels thus leading to development of Aruchi.

1. Liver Care Tablet
