- Abdominal pain is pain which occurs in trunk below ribs and above the pelvis and groin.
- Most of the people experience it at some point of their lives. It is also called stomachache, bellyache, gutache, etc.
- There is discomfort in the stomach region. However, its intensity varies from person to person. It mostly resolves on its own but when it is severe, it needs medical attention.
- Abdominal pain is of many forms. It may range from abdominal cramps, dull stomach ache to sudden, stabbing pain.

TYPES OF ABDOMINAL PAIN
There are following types of abdominal pain:
- Acute pain: it starts in a short time and restores on its own
- Chronic pain: it lasts longer such as a few weeks or months. It generally needs medical attention.
CAUSES OF ABDOMINAL PAIN
There can be several reasons for abdominal pain. Some of the main causes are the following:
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
- Constipation
- Pancreatitis
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Dysmenorrhea
- Ulcers
- Appendicitis
- Pelvic inflammatory disease

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF ABDOMINAL PAIN
Abdominal pain is itself a symptom of several diseases. It is of different nature and it can be associated with some other symptoms:
- Cramps in stomach
- Pain in half or more of the abdominal area
- Pain in a specific area such as appendix or gall bladder
- Colicky pain as in kidney stones
- Blood in stools
- Fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fever
- Swelling in abdomen
- Yellow skin
DIAGNOSIS OF ABDOMINAL PAIN
The doctor will do a physical examination of the patient. He will ask about the signs and symptoms. He will take his family history also. He will see the nature of pain and the location. He may suggest some of the following tests to the patient to evaluate other diseases:

- X-ray
- Barium enema

HOME REMEDIES FOR ABDOMINAL PAIN
Some of the home remedies which can help in curing abdominal pain are:
GINGER
- Ginger is rich in anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in curing indigestion and bloating. It works wonders in stomach upset. Take it in food or as a beverage.
CHAMOMILE TEA
- Chamomile tea helps in relaxing muscles of stomach, thus reducing pain due to spasms and cramps. It is an anti-inflammatory agent also. For good results, one should consume it regularly.
PEPPERMINT
- Peppermint has active ingredient menthol in it. Menthol is a natural pain killer or analgesic. Chew its leaves or make a cup of peppermint tea. It helps in relieving nausea and bloating.
CUMIN SEEDS
