Description
Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the normal skin tissue is replaced by a thick, dense fibrous tissue. The skin gets hard and tight. It is of two types – limited or diffuse scleroderma. When it is located in a particular area, then it is known as limited scleroderma but when throughout the body is affected, then it is known as diffuse scleroderma. Alongwith skin other parts of body also get affected such as lungs, digestive organs, kidneys, muscles and joints. In this, the body’s immune system triggers other cells to form increased amount of collagen. Excessive collagen gets deposited in skin and other organs causing thickening and hardening of the areas. However, the exact cause is not known.
The common signs and symptoms of scleroderma are:
- Presence of red spots on skin
- Deposition of calcium in skin
- Swelling of hands and feet
- Tight and thick skin
- Pain and stiffness in joints
HOW AYURVEDA HELPS?
Scleroderma is known as Uttana vatarakta. It occurs because of the aggravation of vata dosha and it afflicts the superficial tissues of skin and muscles. Vata dosha leads to vitiation of the rakta dhatu due to blockage of the channels present in rakta dhatu. Bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle can be responsible for its occurrence. 2. Aloe-Vera Gel
