Ayurveda’s Perspective on Anaemia
Ayurveda, an ancient Indian medicinal approach and science makes use of natural herbs to formulate remedies various combinations of which help improve your immunity and provide strength and endurance as well. There are plenty of Ayurvedic herbs that help us overcome Anaemia both of extrinsic and intrinsic origins by increasing our blood haemoglobin count and RBC production.
Panchakarma Treatment for Anaemia
Panchakarma is a preventive and curative therapy that helps detoxify the body and mind. The first is the Purvakarma/Preparation stage which aims to separate the doshas and other body ailments and imbalances from our body.
It consists of Snehan therapy which involves lubrication of the body with natural herbal oils and clarified butter. Then comes the Swedan therapy, which comprises a steam bath to produce sweat. A herbal concoction may at times be added to the steam to eliminate toxins from your body.
The second and the most important step to cure anaemia is the Pradhakarma or Main Course. This stage includes 5 elimination processes out of which the Vamana is ideal for curing anaemia. This therapy is best suited for inducing vomiting and getting rid of the mucous that causes excess kapha. The patient is served rice, salt and yoghurt to aggravate Kapha. Application of steam to the chest and back helps liquefy the kapha further. Also a concoction of liquorice, honey and madanaphalam is given to the patient that induces vomiting. Vomiting occurs either spontaneously or can be induced by rubbing the tongue. After 4 to 8 vomits the patient feels comfortable and when practiced regularly it is a very effective way to cure anaemia for good.
