INTRODUCTION
- Hypothermia is a medical emergency that occurs when your body loses heat faster than it can produce heat .
- Normal body temperature is around 98.6 ºF (37ºC) , and hypothermia occurs when your body temperature drops below 95 ºF (35ºC). This drop in body temperature can affect your body’s ability to function properly.
CAUSES OF HYPOTHERMIA
- The most common causes of hypothermia are :
- Cold climatic conditions or cold water.
- Staying out in cold weather for a long duration.
- Wet clothes
- Falling into the water
Sign and Symptoms of hypothermia
- Shivering
- Weak pulse
- Confusion
- Slurred Speech
- Memory loss
- Cold skin
- Slow , shallow breathing
- Lethargy
COMPLICATIONS OF HYPOTHERMIA
- Cardiac Arrhythmias
- Pulmonary oedema
- Pneumonia
- Infections
- Tissue death
AYURVEDA FOR HYPOTHERMIA
- According to Ayurveda Hypothermia is cauesd with an imbalance in vata , pitta and kapha Dosha .
- Vata and Kapha Dosha increase and Pitta Dosha decrease.

HERBS
- Turmeric
Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric. Consume turmeric in the form of tea or by adding it to your food..
- Ginger
Ginger can consume in the form of tea or by adding it to your food. To make ginger tea, grate or slice fresh ginger root and steep it in boiling water for a few minutes
- Garlic
Garlic can be consumed raw or cooked
- Cinnamon
Add cinnamon to your food or consume it in the form of tea. To make cinnamon tea, steep cinnamon sticks in boiling water for a few minutes. You can also add honey and lemon for flavor.
- Herbal tea
It may help reduce symptoms of cold exposure.
- Green tea
Green tea have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cold protective effects. Use caffeine-free products.
- Sesame oil massage
You Can do massage of sesame oil into your skin before taking a warm shower or bath. Warm the sesame oil in a double boiler or by placing the bottle in a warm water bath before using it for massage.
Diet and lifestyle for hypothermia
- Avoid exposure to the cold environment
- Eating and drinking warm foods and beverages
- Moving around while feeling cold to raise body temperature
- Wearing appropriate clothing such as hats , coats , footwear etc.
