Hantavirus is a group of viruses that can cause Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). These viruses are typically transmitted to humans through contact with the urine, droppings, or saliva of infected rodents, primarily deer mice in North America and bank voles in Europe.
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of Hantavirus infection vary depending on the specific virus and the severity of the illness, but they can include
- Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS):
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Coughing
- Difficulty breathing
- Fluid buildup in the lungs
- Low blood pressure
- Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS):
- Fever
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Muscle pain
- Back pain
- Kidney dysfunction
- Hemorrhage (bleeding)
In severe cases, Hantavirus infections can lead to respiratory failure, kidney failure, and death. Prompt medical attention is essential if Hantavirus infection is suspected, especially for individuals with symptoms such as difficulty breathing or severe fatigue. Preventive measures to reduce the risk of Hantavirus infection include avoiding contact with rodents and their droppings, sealing up potential entry points for rodents in homes and other buildings, and practicing proper hygiene when cleaning up rodent-infested areas.
Hanta Virus causes
Hantavirus is primarily transmitted to humans through contact with the urine, droppings, or saliva of infected rodents, particularly deer mice in North America and bank voles in Europe.
The virus can be contracted when people inhale aerosolized virus particles from rodent urine, droppings, or nesting materials that have been disturbed, such as when cleaning out sheds, barns, or other enclosed spaces where rodents may be present. In rare cases, Hantavirus infection can also occur through rodent bites or by consuming food contaminated with rodent droppings or urine.
Risk factors for hanta virus
Several risk factors increase the likelihood of Hantavirus infection:
Occupational Exposure: Individuals working in occupations that involve close contact with rodents or their habitats, such as farmers, pest control workers, forestry workers, and park
Ayurvedic treatment for Hantavirus-
Ayurvedic treatment for Hantavirus infection primarily focuses on supporting the body’s immune system, reducing symptoms, and promoting overall wellness. Some Ayurvedic herbs that may be considered for supporting immune function and overall health during viral infections include
- Tulsi (Holy Basil): Known for its immune-boosting properties and ability to support respiratory health.
- Ashwagandha: Helps to strengthen the immune system and reduce stress, promoting overall wellness.
- Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia): Supports immune function and helps the body fight infections.
- Amalaki (Indian Gooseberry): Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, it helps boost immunity and promote overall health.
- Neem: Known for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, it may support immune function and help reduce inflammation.
