INTRODUCTION
Infertility is one of the most common problems in males. Nearly 1 in 7 couples are unable to conceive. When there occurs some problem in the reproductive system which leads to non-conception, it is known as infertility. A couple having unprotected sexual intercourse for one year or more and is unable to conceive, then a couple is said to have infertility issues. Both male and female can be equally responsible for this.
In males, low sperm count, abnormal structure of sperm or blockage in the sperm carrying duct are some of the common reasons of male infertility. However, unhealthy lifestyle and bad eating habits also contribute male infertility. There are various treatment options available for treating infertility.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF INFERTILITY?
There are various reasons for infertility in males as it is a complex process. Following are the common causes of male infertility:
- Formation of abnormal sperms
- Lack of sperms – Azoospermia
- Low sperm count – Oligospermia
- Less formation of male sex hormones such as testosterone
- Immotile sperms
- Certain genetic disorders like Klinefelter’s syndrome, myotonic dystrophy, etc
- Varicocele
- Suffering from diabetes
- Excessive alcohol intake
- Drug abuse
- Cigarette smoking
- Tobacco chewing
- Autoimmune disorders like SLE, cystic fibrosis, etc
- Injury to the testes

WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS OF MALE INFERTILITY?
Some factors make a man at more risk of infertility. Following are the risk factors of male infertility:
- Being overweight
- Lack of physical exercise
- Exposure to environmental toxins
- Wearing tight undergarments
- Having a family history of infertility
- Any abdominal surgery
- Pelvic surgery
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF MALE INFERTILITY?
The main symptom of male infertility is inability to conceive. However, there are various underlying reasons responsible for it which leads to manifestation of related symptoms. Following are the signs and symptoms which are found in male infertility:
- Pain and swelling in testicles
- Presence of lump in testes
- Reduced sexual desire
- Low volume of ejaculated fluid
- Difficulty in maintaining erection
- Increased growth of breast in males – gynecomastia
- Reduced growth of body or facial hair
HOW MALE INFERTILITY CAN BE PREVENTED?
Male infertility is difficult to prevent but some of the following steps can help in preventing it:
- Avoid smoking
- Say no to alcohol
- Doing regular physical exercise
- Maintaining healthy weight
- Don’t get vasectomy
- Avoid wearing tight inner clothing
- Yoga
- Meditation for reducing stress
WHAT IS THE AYURVEDIC CONCEPT OF MALE INFERTILITY?
Infertility is called Bandhyatwa in Ayurveda. It is the failure to get pregnant after having normal sexual intercourse, regularly for one year. It occurs due to defects in bijansha, having manas and hridaya roga, deposition of semen in the upper part of vagina, eating unhealthy food and decreased bala. Vata dosha gets imbalanced in this.
Some of the Ayurvedic herbs which are beneficial in male infertility are:
- Shatavari
- Ashwagandha
- Brahmi
- Guduchi
- Kesar

MANAGEMENT OF MALE INFERTILTIY WITH THE MEDICATIONS OF CHANDIGARH AYURVED CENTRE
