WHAT IS CORONARY HEART DISEASE?
Condition in which heart’s blood supply is either interrupted or blocked by plaque build-up in the coronary arteries. Arteries’ walls tends to develop a layer of fatty deposits over time. The process of fatty built-up is called Atherosclerosis and fatty deposits are known as atheroma.
Coronary Heart disease is also called as “Silent killer”. Before having a heart attack, individual with this condition may go years without showing any symptom.
There are two main types of coronary heart disease :
- Stable Ischemic Heart Disease : A chronic form of coronary heart disease in which coronary arteries slowly narrow over the years. With time, heart receives less oxygen-rich blood and individual may feel some symptoms, but they are able to live with this condition day to day.
- Acute Coronary Syndrome : A sudden form which is a medical emergency. The plaque in the coronary artery suddenly ruptures and forms a blood clot. The blood clot blocks the blood flow to heart and this sudden blockage cause heart attack.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF CORONARY HEART DISEASE?
The cause of coronary heart disease is deposition of fat, cholesterol, calcium and other substances on inner well of arteries. The phenomena is known as Atherosclerosis and the deposition is called plaque. The plaque buildup cause narrowing of the arteries and sometimes rupture of plaque leads to formation of blood clot and blocks the arteries.
WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS OF CORONARY HEART DISEASE?
Some factors that may increase the risk of coronary heart disease includes :
- Gender: Males are at high risk for developing coronary heart disease. But risk increase in the women after menopause.
- Smoking : Individuals who smoke are more prone to develop heart diseases than others. Inhaling secondhand smoke can also increase the risk of developing coronary heart disease.
- Age : A damaged and constricted artery is more likely to develop as individual age.
- Family history : Having a family history of coronary heart disease put a person at greater risk of developing coronary heart disease.
- Diabetes : Type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease tends to share some risk factors, do developing diabetes can increase the risk of coronary heart disease.
- High Blood Pressure : High blood pressure might causes hardening and stiffness of arteries and coronary arteries can become narrow, slowing blood flow thus increase the risk of coronary heart disease.
- High Cholesterol : High levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood tends to increase the risk of atherosclerosis.
- Obesity : Being overweight is bad for overall health. Obesity can cause hypertension and type 2 diabetes . It also increase the risk of coronary heart disease
- Stress : Stress may cause damage to the arteries and worsen other risk factors of the condition.
- Sleep : Too much or too little sleep both are said to increase the risk of coronary heart disease.
- Unhealthy Diet : Intake of food with lots of trans fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar tends to increase the risk of coronary heart disease.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF CORONARY HEART DISEASE ?
Common symptoms of coronary heart disease experienced by individual includes :
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Pain radiating in shoulder, jaw, arm and back
- Fatigue
- Tightness in chest
- Dizziness
- Increased heart rate
- Nausea
- Weakness
- Indigestion
- Vomiting
WHAT AYURVED SAYS ABOUT CORONARY HEART DISEASE?
In Ayurved it can be correlated with “Hrid rog”. The word hrid means heart and the word rog means disease. In Ayurved Heart is said to be the main channel for rasa and rakta dhatu,. Due to exposure to etiological factors like unhealthy food intake, sedentary life style etc leads to vitiation of the doshas in the body. Vitiated meda dhatu, kapha nd pitta cause obstruction of Vata . The Aggravated vata cause pain in the heart along with other symptoms like fatigue, palpitation etc.

CHANDIGARH AYURVED CENTRE MEDICATION FOR TREATMENT OF CORONARY HEART DISEASE:
1. Trikatu Syrup
