INCOMPATIBLE FOOD OR VIRUDDHA AHARA

Viruddha ahara plays a major role in the production of many diseases especially skin diseases such as leukoderma. According to Ayurveda virudh ahara is one of the causative factors for all types of kushtha. Viruddha ahara refers to the food incompatibility including food to food interactions and food processing interactions that affects the metabolism of tissue, inhibits the process of tissue formation,alter the physiological process of body and having opposite properties are called as viruddha ahara. The food which is taken in wrong combination undergone wrong processing, consumed in wrong dose, consumed in incorrect time of day lead to viruddha ahara. The meaning of word viruddha is opposite.

CLASSIFICATION OF VIRUDDHA AHARA:
- Desha virudha : Desha viruddha is the diet which is contradictory to a region. Example intake of ruksha ahara in dry region and snigdha ahara in marshy areas.
- Kala viruddha: Consuming food items having similar properties to that season i.e Sheet ahara in hemant ritu (ice cream in winter) Katu and ushan ahara in grisham ritu (spicy pav bhaji in summer)
- Agni viruddha :Food taken without knowledge of digestive fire which is samagni, madhyama agni, tikshna agni and vishama agni Example: Laghu and alpa matra ahara for tikshna agni ,guru and atiahara in manda agni.
- Satmya viruddha: Consuming those food items which cannot easily assimilate in human body. For example: Intake of sweet and cold food items by a person who is accustomed to katu and ushna food substance.
- Dosha viruddha: Intake of food having similar qualities to dosha but incompatible to individual. For example: Use of drugs, diets and regimen having same qualities with dosha but at variance with the habitat of individual.
- Matra viruddha: Intake of ghee and honey in equal quantity is act like a poison.
- Sanskar viruddha : Drugs and diets which is prepared in wrong way and it produces wrong effects. For example: Heating of honey and heating of curd.
- Veerya viruddha: Fish with milk is incompatible. Both fish and milk have sweet taste but due to potency fish is hot and milk is cold they vitiate the blood and obstruct the channels of circulation.
- Kram viruddha: Consumption of substances which are against sequence .For example: consuming curd at night, hot water after taking honey, no intake of food when he/she is hungry.
- Koshtha viruddha: Administration of mild purgative in a small dose for a krur koshtha (a person who have costive bowel) and administration of strong purgatives in a laghu koshtha person (who have laxed bowel).
- Avastha viruddha: Intake of vata aggravating food after doing excessive physical exercise,excessive intake of ruksha ahara (dry food )and intake of kapha aggravating food after sleep or drowsiness.
- Parihar viruddha: Intake of ushna (hot) ahara after taking meat and consuming cold water after having hot tea or coffee.
- Upachar virudhha: Consumption of those substances which are against treatment. For example: intake of cold things after taking ghee.
- Paak viruddha: Food which is improperly cooked .For example: food which is under cooked over cooked or burned during the process of preparation.
- Samyoga viruddha: Food which becomes viruddha in combination. For example: Intake of sour substances with milk.
- Hriday viruddha: Intake of those foods who are not liked by the person. Intake of unpleasant food.
- Sampad viruddha: Intake of those foods who have not proper qualities. For example: Intake of substance those are not matured, over matured or putrefied.
- Vidhi viruddha: Not taking food in accordance with the rules of eating. For example: Eating food in public place or open area.

- Kushtha(skin diseases)
- Jwara(Fever)
- Pinas ( Allergic rhinitis )
- Unmada(Insanity)

- Jalodara(Ascitis)
- Kilasa (leucoderma)
- Bhagandra (Fistula in ano)
- Amalpitta(Acidity)
- Pandu roga(Anemia)
- Ama (Endogenous toxins)
- Boils
WRONG FOOD COMBINATION IN DAILY LIFE:
- Milk and fruits: Fruits are acidic in nature and once they break down they turn into sour. Think what happens when you squeeze a piece of lime into milk. Same things happen in stomach when we intake fruits with milk. It can lead to acidity, belching and will hamper the digestive fire leading to the toxins called ama.
- Milk and salt: Milk is cooling and salt is heating due to opposite potencies it will harmful to health.
- Fish should not be taken with honey, jaggery, sesame seed, milk, and black gram
- Hot water: Do not drink hot water after having curd, honey and alcohol.
- Grains should not be consumed with fruits and tapioca.
- Milk, yoghurt, tomatoes are incompatible with lemons.
- Banana should not be mixed with buttermilk and curd.
- Do not eat reddish with urad dal.
- Ghee kept in bronze vessels for 10 days and becomes more toxic.
- Curd should not be taken in night time.
