The traids of health are Aahara(Diet), Nidra(sleep), Bramhacharya(Abstinence). According to Ayurveda an optimum state of health can be achieved by when there is proper balance of “Three sub pillars of life”. One who manages three pillars properly is guaranteed a full life span that will not be short by disease.

THREE SUB PILLARS OF HEALTH ARE:
- ahara
- Nidra
- Brahmhacharya
AHARA :
Food which is consumed with the help of tongue or mouth and throat is called as ahara. Food is the most important source to achieve nutrition and good health.
DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF FOOD:
- Sukadhanya (corn with bristles)
- Samidhanya(pulses)
- Mamsa(meat)
- Saka(vegetables)consisting of leaves, tubers etc.
- Phala(ripe fruits)
- Harita (salads)
- Madya(wines)
- Jala (water)
- Gorasa (milk and milk products)
- Ikshuvikara(products of sugarcane)
- Krtanna(food preparation) such as peya(gruel), Vilepi(thick gruel),manda etc.
- Aharayogi (accessory food articles) such as oils, condiments, spices, salts etc.
TIME FOR TAKING FOOD
Two aharakala: Morning and evening is recommended for the basic meals and food in between is not recommended at all. Meal is taken after proper digestion of previous food which can be known for the symptoms like proper evacuation of bowels, lightness in body, hunger and thirst.
Food is not taken within the yama (3 hours) after the previous meal because in this period rasa dhatu development process is occurred.
EIGHT FACTORS OF DIET AND DIETICS:
- Prakriti: Natural qualities are the innate properties of substances. Presence of qualities lik coldness, heaviness etc.
- Karana: It is the preparation of food to modify the natural properties.
- Samyoga: It is the combination of two or more substances.
- Rasi: It is of two types saragraha(total measurements of whole food) and parigraha (Detailed measurement of each substance of diet )
- Desa: desa means habitat. It indicates that the qualities of substance growing in which region,climate or soil. Substance which grows in watery region having the qualities of ushna or ruksha and the substance growing in desert or sandy regions having qualities of sheeta and snigdha.
- Kala: Two types of kala are nityaga and avasthika.
- Upayoga samstha: procedure in diet consists of dietic rules and it is determined by strength of digestion.
- Upayokta (User): user is he/she who makes to use food. Rules for taking food are hot, unctuous, neither too hurriedly, without talking or laughing, with full concentration, after digestion of previous meal etc.

NIDRA
It is nothing but temporary loss of contact with jannendriya and karmendriya.the natural condition of rest when your eyes are closed and mind and body are not active.
TYPES OF NIDRA:
- TAMOBHAVA :-
Tamobhava nidra is due to increase in tamas guna .when this guna is increased person will feel inside the shell of darkness. It can be natural if it is occurs at night time.
- SHLESHMA SAMUDHBHAVA NIDRA :-
It is a type of nidra which is due to kapha dosha . kapha is said to be predominant in childhood. Children sleep more than adult.
- MANAH SHARIRA SHRAMA SAMBHAVA NIDRA :-
This sleep is occurs when there is exhaustion of mind and body.
- AGANTUKI NIDRA :-
It is caused by the external factors such as the effect of some medicines, injury etc.
- VYADHYANUVARTINI NIDRA :-
It is a type of disease which is due to complication of some disease such as sannipataj jwar.
- RATRI SWABHAVA PRABHAVA NIDRA :-
This sleep comes naturally at night time and it is healthy kind of sleep.

BRAHMACHARYA:
It is the third component of traya upstambha.It is composed of two words brahma and charya. Brahma means self, ultimate unchanging reality; absolute consciousness .Charya means occupation with engaging, behavior, conduct, to follow. Brahmacharya promotes life and preserves health. Sexual energy called sukra .it is needed to build ojas the energy that provides stability to body and mind and underlines the strength of immune system. When sukra is depleted ojas is depleted as well. if ojas is not sufficient the mind and body are more susceptible to disease. Indulgence is advised in winter and spring season and it is less advised during monsoon and summer. The person avoided sex who is physically stressed, mentally not prepared, worried, suffering from fever; surroundings are not good, suffering from prolonged systemic disease etc.
CLASSIFICATION OF BRAHMACHARYA:
- Naishthika brahmachraya: It is defined as the regulated activity of body, mind and speech in all times and situations.
- Vaivahika brahmacharya: It is followed during married life with all disciplines.
- Ashtanga brahmacharya: It is defined as the regulated activity of sense organs and mind when they come in contact with their objects.
