It is an auto-immune disorder which tends to affect the thyroid gland. It is also known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, auto-immune thyroiditis or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. Thyroid gland makes the hormones that virtually regulates all body’s metabolic functions and manage it normal working. But in Hashimoto’s disease immune system starts to attack thyroid gland which leads to hypothyroidism as production of enough thyroid hormones gradually decrease.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF HASHIMOTO’S DISEASE?
It is an auto-immune disorder in which immune system creates anti-bodies that attacks the thyroid cells taking them as foreign body. This causes the damage of cells which eventually leads to cell death. Proper cause of immune system attack to thyroid cells is not clear but certain factors can lead to onset of the condition. The factors includes :
- Genetic factors
- Environmental triggers like stress, infection or radiation exposure.
WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS FOR HASHIMOTO’S DISEASE?
The factors that increase the risk of hashimoto’s disease includes :
- Age : Chance of development of hashimoto’s disease is quite common in middle age but can occur at any age.
- Family History : Having family history of this disease or any other autoimmune disease increase the risk of development in individual.
- Gender : Females are at more risk than males to get hashimoto’s disease.
- Other Auto-immune disease : Individual with another auto-immune disease like rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes , lupus etc increase the risk of developing Hashimoto’s disease.
- Excessive Iodine Intake : Consumption of too much iodine in diet may trigger the development of Hashimoto’s disease in already at risk individuals.
- Radiation Exposure : Individual exposed to excessive levels of environmental radiations are more at risk of developing Hashimoto’s disease.
- Pregnancy : There are changes in immune function during pregnancy which can cause development of Hashimoto’s disease that begins after pregnancy.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF HASHIMOTO’S DISEASE?
Some of the common symptoms experienced by individual includes :
- Weight gain
- Goiter
- Feeling cold
- Tiredness
- Depression
- Joint stiffness and muscle pain
- Dry skin
- Constipation
- Hair thinning or hair loss
- Puffy eyes or face
- Irregular or heavy periods
- Slow heartbeat
- Difficulty to conceive
- Memory problem
- Brittle nails
- Enlargement of tongue
AYURVED APPROACH :
In ayurved this condition is caused due to vitiation of pitta and vata doshas that in turn cause imbalance of agni ( digestive fire ) in the body. The imbalanced agni leads to vitiation of dhatvagni which can lead to development of the condition with associated symptoms. Treatment of the root cause can help to manage the condition in individual.

CHANDIGARH AYURVED CENTRE MEDICATION
1. Panchasakar Churan
Panchsakar churna is a herbo mineral and purely ayurvedic formulation. It mainly works on your Vata and pitta dosha of your body.
