Pakshaghat is a neurological disorder in which inability to move the group of muscles of either left or right side of body. Paksavadha and Ekanga roga are the synonyms of Pakshaghata. It is a vata-nanatmaja vyadhi in which impairement of karmendriyas,gyanendrias and manas. This disease affects the madhyama rog marga and disrupts the function of sira, snayu, kandara.

CAUSES :
- Excessive Intake of ruksha, sheeta, laghu anna .
- Awakening at night
- Excessive swimming
- Excessive fasting
- Weakening due to excess stress, grief and worries
- Suppression of natural urges.
- Riding over horse
DIFFERENT STAGES:
- PAKSAVADHA: When the aggravated vata dosha paralyzes one side of body and it causes immobility of that side along with pain, loss of speech.
- EKANG ROGA: When the aggravates vata affects half side of body and it cause constriction of vesels and ligaments either on one leg or one hand along with aching or piercing pain .
- SARVANG ROGA: Aggravated vata affects the entire body.
SYMPTOMS:
- Loss of function in affected parts of body
- Difficulty in speaking
- Lock jaw
- Severe pain in affected parts
- Hyperpyrexia
- Cold extremities
- Edema or heaviness
FACTORS INVOLVED IN PATHOGENESIS:
- Dosha : Vata (Prana,Udana )
Pitta(Pachak,Ranjak)
Kapha(Shleshak or Avlambaka)
- Dushya: Rasa ,rakta, mamsa, medha,manas.
- Agni : Jatharagni,Dhatavagni
- Strotasa: rasavaha ,raktavaha ,Mamsavaha

PANCHAKRMA CHIKITSA:
- Snehana:
Snehana karma leads to liquefaction, oleation, increased fluidity and softening that further leads to soften the channels so that toxins can get detached and eliminated easily during main sodhana (detoxification process).
- Swedana
Swedana relieves stiffness, heaviness and coldness of the body as it induces sweating
- Nasya
Nasya karma refers to as instillation of herbal oils, juices or powder through nasal route.It strengthens the nervous system .
- Basti
Basti is the most effective treatment for vata disorders.
Basti expell the body toxins and vititated doshas by introducing medicated liquids or liquids through anal route, urethra or vaginal canal.
- Mridu Virechna
It flushes out the toxins and excess mucus from GI tract through anal Route.
Clear congestion from the Liver and improves metabolism.
- Shirodhara
Shirodhara has relaxing, soothing, calming effects in the body and mind.

MODERN CORRELATION OF PAKSHAGHATA WITH PARALYSIS:
Paralysis is the loss of ability to move some or all part of body. Paralysis can cause problems with blood flow, breathing, how well your organ work.
PATTERNS OF PARALYSIS:
- HEMIPLAGIA: Paralysis affects one side of body i.e Upper or lower limb of same side or opposite side.
- MONOPLEGIA: It is the paralysis of single limb or single group of muscles.
- PARAPLEGIA: It is the paralysis of both the lower limb.
- QUADRIPLEGIA: It can affect all four limbs sometimes along with organs.
CAUSES OF PARALYSIS:
- Vascular changes such as thrombosis, Embolism, Haemorrhage.
- Intracranial infection such as Encephalitis, Meningitis.
- Systemic diseases of cord.
- Peripheral neuritis
- Cervical lesions.
- Muscle diseases such as Myasthenia gravis

PREVENTION OF PARALYSIS:
- Consume low fat or high fiber diet.
- Control cholesterol level and weight
- Maintain healthy body weight.
- Avoid smoking or alcohol consumption
- Avoid excessive starvation, Excess exercises , suppression of natural urges.
- Take balanced diet .
- Limit salt intake and fat in diet.
