- Environmental health advocacy is a top priority in the public health field, as environmental factors continue to adversely affect individual and population health Climate change may result in changed disease patterns, making communities susceptible to different illnesses and climate change has been linked to an uptick in floods, wildfires, and superstorms, all of which can play roles in harming human health.
- Poor industrial hygiene is another example of how environmental factors can impact wellness like heavy metals or even some plastic can also hurt the human body and even lead to serious medical conditions
- Industries that are irresponsible with manufacturing and waste disposal may be poisoning the natural world, impacting our physical well-being
The environmental impacts on human health include physical, chemical and biological hazards Air, water, soil, sound and land pollution are the major cause of illness in all humans.
- Physical hazards include airborne particles, humidity, equipment design, and radiations, etc.
- Biological hazards include viruses, microbial agents, insects, rodents, animals and plants, etc.
- Chemical hazards include pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, lead, Acids, chlorine, and other caustic substances.
SERIOUS DISEASES THAT GROW IN ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION:
- Breathing in polluted air not only causes respiratory diseases but it also invites death
- When the number of pollutants in the air increases excessively, there may be burning and itching in the eyes, apart from difficulty in breathing. Apart from asthma, many respiratory diseases arise.
- Due to traffic pollution, there is a bad effect on the brain of children and it gives rise to many types of mental disorders and there is also a risk of miscarriage due to pollution.
- The most common diseases caused by air pollution include ischemic heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer and acute lower respiratory infections in children.
- Ischemic heart disease, or coronary heart disease, is linked with the buildup of calcium or other materials like fat within the coronary artery,”
MAIN CAUSES OF POLLUTION:
- There are many reasons for air being polluted, the main ones being smoke from factories and factories,
- Garbage is also playing an important role in polluting the environment. Many harmful gases are generated due to burning and dumping of garbage and make it poisonous when mixed with clean air.
- Just as clean air is needed to live a healthy life, in the same way clean water is also needed. It is also said that ‘water is life’. But today this water is giving rise to many serious diseases. The reason for this is the pollution of water.
- The waste from factories, factories is dumped in rivers. The water coming out of the dirty drains mixes in the rivers making it polluted. This polluted water spreads many diseases like diarrhoea, typhoid and cholera.
WHAT TO DO TO PREVENT ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION:
To save the environment, the government must make some policies, but apart from this, we should also take some steps at our level. Such as:
- Put wet waste and dry waste in separate dustbins
- Put fruits, vegetables or things that can be recycled in the green dustbin and things like plastic, glass, polythene in the blue colored dustbin.
- Use items that are reusable, that is, they can be used again. Switch off all lights and fans whenever you leave the room or home.
- If you have to go to a market or other place nearby, then use a bicycle instead of a car or public transport or go by walking.
- Use eco-friendly products instead of hazardous chemical based products for cleaning the car, house or other things
