IS LEECH THERAPY HELPFUL IN ALOPECIA AREATA?

- ALOPECIA AERATA is an autoimmune disorder, which affects the hair follicles within which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body mainly from the scalp.
- Affected areas – commonest is scalp and beard
- Less common areas- eyebrows, eyelashes and hair
- Common signs and symptoms of alopecia include one small round patch, or multiple patches of hair loss. alopecia usually starts get into atiny low localized area, but it can make alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis

CAUSES OF ALOPECIA AREATA:
Malnutrition, Iron deficiency, mycosis, Genetics, high level of male hormone, radiation and chemotherapy, hormonal imbalance, HIV
IN AYURVEDA:
- Body is created of pitta, vata, and kapha doshas.
- Any disease is that the results of imbalance between these doshas
- Hair loss or alopecia is imbalance within the pitta dosha. This ends up in slower hair growth, weak hair, and greater hair fall rate.
LEECH THERAPY OR JALAUKA (BLOOD PURIFIER THERAPY):
- The word leech comes from laece which implies physician. Leech is usually referred to as “Jalauka” that’s derived from Sanskrit word thanks to its site of dwelling and also the nutrition source is Jala means “water”.
- It increase blood circulation and rebuild the system.
- When medicinal leeches are applied to thinning or bald areas
- This helps increase of blood circulation and helps enhance the concentration and deliver of nutrients that assist within the promotion of hair re-growth.
- People suffering alopecia caused by fungal infections or dandruff and also the leeches saliva, which helps combat fungal infections.
- Maintains overall health
- Helps in detoxification of the body
- Treats all the skin problems
- Improves a correct blood circulation
LEECH THERAPY IN CHANDIGARH AYURVED CENTER:
PROCEDURE –
- Firstly, the application of honey, blood or butter is done by Prachana. Apply a leech on the affected area. Leech bites the affected area spontaneously and sucked the blood. The patient experienced a slight pricking sensation at the site of the bite. Once leech started to suck the blood, its neck part looks elevated that indicates that sucking was well and in progress. During sucking gradual distension were observed at its body center and wavy movement / pulsation was visible throughout its body. The body part was covered with a wet swab except his mouth to create a natural atmosphere and it was maintained throughout the process by pouring some water on it.
- After that, remove a leech and emesis is done by a dusting of Haridra Churna on its mouth or sometimes pressing the leech from caudal to the front end is required for proper emesis. Leech should be freed in fresh normal water, where it swims swiftly and then settles down. After that, replace the leech in a clean jar or aquarium. Dusting of Lodhra Churna and finally bandaging is applied over the bite site.
