What is Vitamin D after all?
According to the report published in the BBC, even though the name of vitamin D is ‘vitamin’, it is not a vitamin but a hormone. Now let us also tell you that Vitamin D is of two types. The deficiency we are talking about is Vitamin D3. Apart from this, there is vitamin D2 but the body cannot digest it. One such hormone that helps the body to digest calcium is Vitamin D3. When the sun’s rays fall on our body, then the ultraviolet-B rays of the sun fall on our body, then our body makes vitamin D from the cholesterol contained within. According to a recently published report, by the year 2050, half of all hip fractures in the world will occur in Asia.
Why Vitamin D is so important?
- Now even if it does not directly fall under the category of vitamins, but consider it as a type of warrior that is claimed that vitamin D increases the strength to fight our diseases. We do not need to explain how much such a warrior would be needed to cure the disease in case of disease. Overall, it increases immunity of the body.
- Correctly regulates the co-ordination of nerves i.e. the nervous system and muscles. Strengthens not only bones but also muscles and ligaments.
According to a BBC report, a research conducted in London found that vitamin D protects against infections in our windpipe.
- It regulates the amount of protein in our body cells. At the same time, due to vitamin D, the number of calcium in the intestines also remains in proper quantity, which reduces the risk of intestinal cancer.
- Research on several types of cancer, such as liver cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, shows that vitamin D prevents cancer cells from growing.
Helpful in mental diseases such as depression?
Experts believe that vitamin D helps fight mental diseases. Actually we get a pigment serotonin from sunlight. This pigment is related to our mood. At the same time, we also get vitamin D from the pigment melatonin. In such a situation, if there is a deficiency of both these pigments, then it increases the risk of mental diseases like depression.
How to get vitamin D3
- From the sun. Yes, you get the most and best vitamin D3 from sunlight. However, apart from this, it is also found from animal fat such as fish oil, liver, egg yolk, milk products etc.
- Different opinions are often heard on the right time and method of sunbathing. Actually, there is no need for more confusion in this regard. Think of it this way – if your shadow is becoming smaller than your height in the sun, then sunlight is more beneficial.
- Sunlight directly on the skin. That is, whenever going to soak in the sun, try that the face, neck, shoulders, chest, back are open. From here sunlight will enter the body. Significantly, vitmin D can be produced with the help of sunlight filtering from glass.
- If you can sunbathe from 10 am to 3 pm, do so. For a one-day vitamin dose, you have to sunbathe for 45 minutes. If you sit for longer than that, it is not that you will absorb more vitamins. According to the report of Navbharat Times, some amount of vitamin is formed when sitting less than this, but the body will not be able to digest it and it will be wasted.
