Kidney stones are one of the most common disorders of urinary tract. Normally, urine contains certain factors that inhibit stone building substances like magnesium, citrate, pyrophosphate etc from forming crystals. Deficiency in these protective substances result in the formation of crystals. Changes in the pH of the urine, that causes acid or alkaline imbalances, can also affect one precipitation.

Urinary stones are generally formed by calcium, phosphates or oxalates.


Kidney stones may be caused due to the following causes:

  • Crystallization of the chemicals and minerals present in urine leads to kidney stones
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Blockage of the urinary tract
  • Due to overdosage of vitamin D

  • Drink enough water every day. Drink atleast 4-5 litres of water each day.
  • Avoid eating sour, heavy and dry foods.
  • Increase the intake of liquids in your diet like water, juice, soup and lime water.
  • Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, cold drinks and pickles.
  • Avoid suppressing the urge to urinate and defecate.
  • Increase the intake of barley, ginger, horse gram and brown rice in your diet.
  • Eat watermelon pr drink its juice. This helps in flushing out stones from the kidney. The water and potassium content of the watermelon helps in regulating and maintaining the level of acid present in the urine thereby keeps the kidney healthy
  • Lemon juice contains citric acid that helps to break down the calcium based kidney stones. Drinking this juice increases the volume of urination which is really good for those having kidney stones.


  • Heat 60 grams of kidney beans in four litres of water for about 4-5 hours. Strain the liquid and allow it to cool. Drink one glass of this liquid once every two hours in a day.
  • Take one cup of horse gram and add half litre of water. Heat the mixture till it reduces to one fifth. Strain and collect the soup. Add two tablespoons of crushed pomegranate seeds to this and mix well. Drink this once a day.
  • Take 10-15 basil leaves and crush them to prepare the paste. Take one teaspoon of this paste, press on a sieve and extract its juice. Add one teaspoon of honey to it and mix well. Drink this once a day.
  • Soak two teaspoons of radish seeds in a glass of water. Boil and reduce this to half. Strain and drink half cup of this two times a day. This helps in dissolving the kidney stones.

Ischemic heart disease or myocardial ischemia is a disease in which there is reduced blood supply to the heart muscles.   • Take 7-8 ours sound sleep as sleep deprivation leads to depression, blood pressure problems and other disorders that increase the risk of heart disease.
  • Focus on positive attitudes, emotions and activities that increase the ojas. Ojas maintains the contentment, bliss, vitality and longetivity.


  • Soak one teaspoonful of fenugreek seeds in water for a night. Consume them in the next morning on empty stomach. This will reduce the cholesterol level and excess fats.
  • Take half tablespoon of Trikatu powder with honey regularly. This too helps in reducing the cholesterol level and hence prevents the heart disease.
  • Take three parts of powdered turmeric, six parts of grind cumin, six parts of grind coriander, six parts of grind fennel, two parts of grind fenugreek, one part of dried powdered ginger and one part ground black pepper.
  • Take 5-10 grams of powdered Arjun tree bark, I cup of milk and 3 cups of water. Boil all these things till it reduces to half. This is known as Arjun Ksheer Pak. Take this empty stomach in the morning.
  • Prepare a paste of about one gram of garlic in a glass of buttermilk. Drink this twice a day. This lowers the cholesterol and prevents heart diseases.

Infertility refers to the inability of a couple for conception even after one year of unprotected intercourse. Besides, women who are able to get pregnant but have repeated miscarriages or abortion are also said to be infertile.

In Ayurveda, preparing a woman’s body for conception is compared with the process of farming. It is believed that as the health of a crop depends upon the quality of seed, soil, timing of sowing and the amount of water it gets, in the same way the health of the baby depends upon the health of the parents.

For a healthy and successful pregnancy, a couple needs to take care of the following four important factors:

Ayurveda believes that healthy poorva dhatu leads to the development of the uttarotar dhatu. As a result the reproductive tissue or the shukra dhatu remains deficient and hence leads to the condition of infertility. The main aim of ayurvedic treatment in case of infertility is to make sure that there is proper transformation of the food into nutrients that can lead to the proper development of the shukra dhatu.

  • Prepare the fine powder of Ashwagandha and add one teaspoon of this in a glass of water. Have this twice a day.
  • Mix equal amounts of finely powdered pomegranate seeds and its bark. Store this in an airtight jar. Take half teaspoon of this mixture in a glass of warm water two times a day.
  • Grind 10-12 seedless dates and two tablespoons of chopped coriander root. Prepare the paste and add three-fourths cup of cow’s milk and boil. Cool it and then drink this once daily.
  • Prepare a fine powder of dried tender roots of the banyan tree and take 20 grams of its powder with milk atleast once a day.

Headache is defined as the pain in and around the head and neck. Headache is a symptom rather than disease. Headaches are characterized by a feeling of tenseness in the neck, shoulder and scalp.

According to Ayurveda, headache is compared with Shirhashoola. It is caused due to vitiation of vata and kapha dosha in the body. As the pain increases in its intensity, pitta dosha also gets imbalanced and hence causes burning sensation in the head along with nausea and vomiting.

It is believed that the headache is caused due to two main reasons. One is impaired digestion and the cause is sensitive nervous system. Improper diet leads to the aggravation of the pitta dosha. The aggravated pitta dosha leads to the production of toxins in the body which is known as ama in ayurveda. This ama dosha then starts getting accumulated in the manovahi srotas and hence causes headache.

  • Avoid working for long hours continuously
  • Avoid exposure towards hot and cold weather.
  • Perform simple exercises to reduce the intensity of headache. Move your chin upwards and downwards, left and right and bend the neck sideways towards each shoulder by turns. These exercises cause the relaxation of the muscles and hence reduces the pain.


  • Take one cup of warm water and add a green tea bag to it. Squeeze half a lemon and mix well. Drink this for instant relief.
  • Separate the outer covering of 2-3 lemons. Chop and crush the lemon’s outer covering to make a paste. Apply this paste on the forehead for quick relief from the headache.
  • Take two tablespoon of cinnamon powder and add water to prepare its paste. Mix well and apply on the forehead for relieving headache.
  • Take one glass of watermelon juice and mix one teaspoon sugar in it. Have this mixture. This is helpful in relieving headaches caused due to heat.
  • Prepare a paste of sandal wood and mix it with rose water and apply this over the forehead.
  • Grind 10-12 grains of black pepper and 10-12 grains of rice with water to make a paste. Apply this paste on the area where it pains.
  • Mix one fourth teaspoon of clove powder with one teaspoon of cinnamon oil. Apply this paste on the affected area for 15-20 minutes.

Herbal Remedies for Ayurvedic Treatment of Bad Breath (Halitosis)


Bad breath is known as halitosis. It is usually due to improper cleaning of the teeth and tongue that leads to germ build up in the mouth and throat that gives off foul smell while exhaling or talking.


The main cause of bad breath is mainly due to sulfur producing bacteria that live on the surface of the gums, tongue and throat. When these bacteria present in the mouth break down the proteins, they release a sulfurous odour that causes bad breath. Besides, when the salivary glands present in the mouth fail to produce sufficient saliva, the dead cells get accumulated in the mouth and produce foul odour in breath.

The other causes are:

  • Poor digestion
  • Dry mouth
  • Gum problems
  • Eating no fibre food and less carbohydrates
  • Tooth decay
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Post nasal drip
  • Digestive disorders such as chronic constipation and indigestion

Panchkarma procedure, Gandush with warm water or with Triphala decoction has good results in this case. In Gandush, the desired liquid is filled in the mouth till its maximum capacity and held upto the maximum time patient is able to handle and then it is spit off. The procedure is repeated for 2- 3 times. This helps in cleaning the oral cavity and thus removes the bad breath.


  • Brush two times a day.
  • Rinse your mouth thoroughly after every meal as this helps to remove the clogged food particles from the mouth.
  • Drink pineapple juice as it purifies the mouth.
  • Consume the tea made from the leaves of fenugreek
  • Chew a piece of clove after every meal.
  • Apple and guava should be taken in your diet as they prevent the bacterial activity in the mouth.
  • Use tongue cleaner to clean the tongue regularly.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol.
  • Food timings should be regular.
  • Do regular excercises to maintain good digestion.
  • Eating fennel seeds regularly helps in removing the bad odour from the mouth.
  • Consume food stuffs rich in zinc as it inhibits the growth of anaerobic bacteria and hence prevents bad breath.
  • Drink enough water to prevent excessive dryness of mouth.
  • Practice yoga and pranayam to avoid the digestive problems and for curing halitosis.


  • Take one cup of hot water and add three teaspoons of cinnamon powder to it. Mix them well and use this as a mouthwash when lukewarm.
  • Chew few parsley leaves as they are rich in chlorophyll and work as natural deodorizer.
  • Take equal amounts of bakul, khadir, clove, betel nut, cardamom, cumin seeds, vidang, Manjishtha, black pepper and camphor. Prepare a powder of the above ingredients and store them in a vessel. This can be used as a mouth wash or for cleaning the teeth.
